My brother’s cockatoo. A pitbull with feathers.

My old dog Scruffy, a stray we picked up from the streets of Philadelphia. Such an odd but loyal dog. Chair was tossed long ago!

If you ever need a cat's perspective on how we got here, Zephyr will help you unpack it.

Great pictures! Bumble, is that you on the sofa with the dog? Bittersweet. My English pointer Grace and I would take a nap together on the sofa. She even slept in the bed and knew the words "Are you ready for bed?" and "Scoot over!" lol She'd leave the LR and follow me to the bedroom and if she hogged the bed I'd tell her to scoot over and she actually did. :)

Allison, this is Callieco and I think she's the sweetest of the lot. I wonder if it's a trait of calicos? Like tuxedo cats, they're not a breed yet they all have a distinct personality which is why they're my favorite.

    Callieco, Mama's little girl. :)

I remember this day well. I was walking around the place and when I turned the corner, this is what I saw. Raven and Callie...Callie's fluffy now. ;)

Here's Lester, our newly adopted 9 month old, 15 pound fella, he adores every person, dog and cat he meets. Second picture is him watching seagulls flying around, bird watching is a fav pastime of his, he just quivers with excitement and watches intently.

    Ohhh I love Lester’s face!

I cannot post DD2's dog without sharing their new cat. She and DGD2 went to buy dog food.... this is Wednesday. She is 9mths old and a triple crown winner. Most Colorful Cat...

...Best Tailless Cat, and Best Belly Up But Not a Dog Cat.

I had the pleasure of house/dog/cat sitting last week while they went on a vacation. She is just the sweetest (Proof: in bed with me, above). She loves to be scratched on her tummy.

Allison, is that a manx? I had one many years ago and she was just the sweetest thing ever.

This is Poco. She’s 13 and still pretty spry for a big dog. She is Gold Medalist in Sweetest and Most in Need of Regular Reupholstering.

Oakley, she and a sibling/sister were born without a tail, but they are not Manx. More Bobtail.

Lulu is the biggest hugger and cuddlebug, but today she wins happiest to be rid of her stitches and the donut (which reminds me to send the photo to her vet). Might also be the fastest vet appointment ever - we didn't even go into an exam room - the tech took her back, doc removed the stitches and we were done in less time than it too to show them the donut photo. When we went picking kitties at the rescue, DH had an immediate preference for Mila, and I for Misty. The cats have responded as well, and Misty is my kitty while Mila is DH's.

Misty is amazing in that she follows me around outside like a puppy dog. I've never had a cat do that. She starts purring the moment you touch her, and when she's really into it, her purr is very sing-song ending up on a higher note, almost a trill. So adorable! And she was kind enough to pose for me for this week's photo challenge of something in B&W.

What a great picture! i have 4 cats and none of them purr. :(

    last modified: 2 years ago

I don't want to slight Mila. She is not much of a purrer. Many times I have to feel for vibration in her neck to see if she's purring. She's much more of an imp, playing, loves being upside down, and is a real love sponge. She will absorb as much loving as you're willing to give. And of course, those little pink lips get me every time! When she's zen, she's very very zen, and when she's wild, she zooms!

Mr. Fluffy, the messiah of dogs….gone in 2022 but never forgotten.

Mila has the classic personality of a tuxedo. Although not a breed they have almost identical personalities. You should look them up. I can vouch for it, Ive had 3.

A friend made a jigsaw puzzle for me of Sasha and after the initial grieving. I started working on it and I'm working on it now. It's been tender and touching and sweet. Snapfish.

    Lovely, Bumblebeez.

These are all gorgeous photos, everyone!

This is my neighbor's cat, Bella, and she deserves to win something, so I am going to nominate her for "Best swaying fur when she runs". :) My neighbor adopted her after she was abandoned and she must weigh all of 3 pounds when she's soaking wet. She comes running when she sees me and she spends warm days lounging in the chairs on my porch, or grazing in my catnip. More often than not, she leaves her tongue out just a little. :)

Mila and Bella have such beautiful faces.

Annie, I had Misty's long lost cousin, Angel. DS adopted from a rescue in Chicago during college. Angel was a replacement adoption when the first kitten died (no fault of DS, it was sent home with a disease and spent two weeks back at the rescue until it passed). Not to be outdone, Angel had to go back after a few days and spent six weeks getting well. He came to live with us when he was about 5yo, and was healthy for the rest of his life. Angel was a chunky fellow that liked "his" pillow and was very good at opening certain cabinet doors to nap.

Bumble, are you going to paste and hang the puzzle on a wall? She'll be forever memorialized.

Party, I rarely see a long haired tuxedo. Beautiful!

Below was my first tuxedo Raptor, my only male tuxedo. When he'd sit on the sofa with his back leaning against it with his belly and legs open, I'd lean down and put my cheek on his belly and he didn't mind. I miss that.

The picture of my tuxedo behaving like a crazed idiot on the green chair was Rex, short for T-Rex, and she was a female. Raven is a the pole climber is a female.

    Traits of tuxedo cats:

    1. It’s rumored that tuxedo cats become essentially invisible on the vernal equinox – maybe this is why they are said to have magical powers!
    2. Tuxies are the strongest swimmers of all domestic felines, but heaven help the human who tries to get them into the water.
    3. Tuxedo cat owners have also been known to describe their cats as more intelligent than cats with any other coat pattern. Some say tuxies are up to 200% smarter than other cats!
    4. Tuxies bring you luck. Apparently numerous lotto winners are owned by these dapper felines.
    5. They form strong attachments with their owners, and they love to cuddle.
    6. Tuxedo cats owned by Beethoven, Sir Isaac Newton, and Shakespeare (which may attest to their intelligence).
    7. Stan the tuxedo cat made headlines in 2012 during municipal elections. He was the mayoral candidate from Halifax, Canada, representing the Tuxedo Party.
    8. Tuxies have been in the White House! President Clinton owned a tux named Socks.
    9. Tuxedo cats are the only felines allowed in at performances of the metropolitan area because they’re always in black tie.
    10. More than 70% of the cats seen in Egyptian royal tombs are tuxedo cats.
    11. Talk about lucky! A tuxedo named Sparky inherited over $6 million from his owner in 1998.
    12. The mustached tuxedo is infamously called the “kitler,” while another variation, with white around the chin and nose, is called the masked tuxedo.
    13. Roderick, a tuxedo, is the only cat to climb Mt. Everest.
    14. Tuxedo kittens open their eyes 24 hours before a regular cat and they have a lifespan of 10 to 15 years.

Oakley, I will definitely do the puzzle every once in a while!

Actually, you can wear jeans (or a tux, or a ballgown, or a miniskirt) to the Met. My DD2 is going to the opera next weekend with a friend (this is her birthday present) and I told them both they can dress up or down or wild. It is NYC after all!

This is my DS's Standard Poodle, Elton, posing as a hedgehog, and Microsoft trying to claim Elton's Lambypie!!!

Zephyr has a majestic purr. At 5 am, it can annoy.

MaryJane is in all white. She truly behaves more like a dog than a cat and she's very friendly and loves everybody. I call her "Miss Congeniality". I'll nominate her for "Best stretch". She actually falls asleep in these positions. :)

This is Lucille Von Wigglebutt. She is a piebald dachshund.

She is renowned for allowing us (and her babies) to share her bed at night. However, during the day, the space is all hers. Especially when it's cold outside.

One of Lulu's first toys was a lamb, cuz it was cute and because Lulu often looks a it like a lamb. She loved it so much, but it wasn't going to last much longer when I went into Petco and saw a giant (ok, very big) one. Of course I got it for her.
