What do you have right now - a "gravity" (convection) floor/wall furnace/heater?

We have a Marley 30" electric baseboard heater.

It's a basic fact of physics that heat rises. That's why baseboard heaters make sense. If you don't have high ceilings and you do have good insulation in your attic, perhaps higher heaters make some sense. Otherwise, not.

A Mat, yes, maybe it was infrared. How do those work? Can you place them over the door in a small bathroom? Who sells them? I'm just trying to find out more about this option. Thanks! PS: Floorboard is the same as baseboard.

Infrared heaters work well because they do not heat the air in a space, but rather the contents in the room, and thus radiate the heat from them. it also heats the person in the room and why a setting can be a few degrees cooler than a conventional heater and still be comfortable. This is why you often see them just above the exits at Walmarts and Home Depots; no matter how much the doors are open the heat goes to everything around them and not the air. It is also why they can be placed up high. Hot air rises but warm components in a room do not.

They work so well they have pretty much replaced radiant floor heating systems in places like churches and stores. They are very effecient without tons of plumbing.

You can get incandescent infrared bulbs for regular fixtures. Cheap enough for a trial!

I've installed the type of radiant heaters wdccruise shows in their post above. The applications were on screen porches and in garages. I wouldn't install one in a bathroom. I second their recommendation for a radiant wall heater.

Could he maybe have meant a heat pump / mini split system? I’m just guessing but they are mounted high on a wall and are popular to replace electric baseboards. Not typically over doors though?

Does anyone have any experience using a Comfort Cove Radiant Heater? It doesn't appear that this unit has the orange coils resembling a toaster -- that's a good thing. Does a unit like this get extremely hot to touch?

The Comfort Cove heater looks like it might be a good choice. I like that there are models that will run on 120 volts which might make the wiring easier to install. It still requires a dedicated circuit, though. There are several thermostat options offered but I think it would make sense to include a timer so you wouldn't accidentally leave the heater on.
