You have a lot of nice wood, so look into Marmoleum tiles. They were very popular in MCM kitchens.

Agree that marmoleum would look good. I have it in my city kitchen and love it. Easy to care for, warm and soft underfoot. Mine is a greenish marble-y color.

There are so many colors and combinations you could use. From solid colors that you can use to make a pattern, to marble and slate options, to wood-look, the sky's the limit. View them on their site, and then get samples of them from the company or from a flooring dealer. Then come back here and post some options to get advice.

I do agree that green would be a nice complement to your wood cabinets. However, nothing is going to make the wood look less orange. The orange would be less dominant if you choose a floor color that has no red, orange or yellow in it.

Are stone tiles not recommended for kitchens?

I think stone is fine for kitchens. Just be aware that they can be hard on knees and backs. Also you should be aware of how to clean and maintain them.

Karishma, I had that slate tile in my old kitchen (do NOT use the 12x12 size. ours were 18x18) We also hand picked each one of these tiles to get this color arrangement. otherwise we would have had all blah gray/green)

I didn't mind the tiles. However, they must be sealed every 2-3 years. slate is petrified mud. if it's not sealed the tile will slough off 'mud' residue everytime it's cleaned. so good sealer and good stone floor cleaner. It also remains room temp. (some denser stone tiles can 'feel' cold on bare feet. slate does not. )

marmoleum is a nice option. I'd look at the larger charcoal colors,

or, I really like these larger terrazzo-look tiles. Colors are perfect and it fits w/your style.

I actually like Beth’s suggestion of light terrazzo tile.

I must admit though, I actually really like the darker brown border strip (except maybe not as wide) because it ties back to the darker wood island posts. I also like how it would pay homage to the original design.

I would not do the busy slate tile because I think your countertops are pretty busy and it would compete. Plus, to me it does not fit with your style of a MCM/Japanese kitchen.

Terrazzo floors can also be poured as a continuous slab if you don’t want grout lines …

Porcelain tile in a gray slate look would be more uniform looking than natural slate and easier to maintain. I have it in my primary bathroom. The slate look is so convincing my cleaner thought it was real. I do like the light terazzo look that Beth H. posted though.
