nothing is positioned back exactly to proper measurement. the sofa had to moved to take down window lights, coffee table , stools moved so i could vacuum the riug etc. i couldnt shift everything back on my own. I have to wait for my husband to help lift everything back with me appropriately i just sent the pic to show the room to get an answer about chandeleir size. i cant really fiigure out which sizing would be correct.

I would lean toward bigger (15 seems too small, maybe the coffee table is undersized for the sofa?)

FWIW I will often mock up hanging fixtures so i see what I like in situ (little bit of cardboard and string and you can get a good idea)

I'd prob do something like this (gave you some mirrors behind your cabinets. you have a lot of tiny things (was that for xmas?) if not, I'd get something like shown here for your mantle, and some diff items for the cabinet tops

I usually have 2 large vases filled worh sprigs on the cabinets flanking the fireplace. those things on the cabinets are not in their proper place.

my sofa is 79 inches long ; so i was told that a coffee table should be 2/3 the length of the sofa, which is 52. The coffee table is 52 in length x30 width.

those are all nice fixtures Beth, thank you, , but again, what size?? Yes LaLa, i too felt 15 wide seemed weirdly small, but all these “rules” give different formulations for what size to get. I dont know what is what!! 🤦🏼‍♀️

i like this fixture below , and it comes in various sizes . im also open to other suggestions, but this one caught my eye

with only 8' of ceiling, you can't get anything that hangs down too low.

I'd look at a semi flush mount w/something that hangs no more than a foot or so.

I think 15" is too small. 30 might be too big. shoot for the middle.

blow up a balloon to diff sizes and see which looks best

the fixture i showed comes with a 6 inch rod and 12 inch. the 6 could work. or a semi flush as you suggested.

If you use a large coffee table you can go wider on a ceiling semi flush fixture. Depends on style and shape. So if you are changing furniture then wait until those decisions are made, then decide on lighting. Can you even get a wire and junction box in your low ceiling? Of course figure that out first.

Minimum 33" in diameter, but the fixture needs to be much wider than taller. Center it over the coffee table, which is too small to compete with your seating.

The furniture is all new. i am not replacing any of it.

i dont forsee any problem with getting a junction box to fit, as I currently have an entryway pendant, 2 pendants over the kitchen island , pendants in all 4 bedrooms and a DR chandelier; all of which have the same ceiling heights.

Here’s plan that would be amazing. Really make room sing. Rewires larger coffee table (needed in any case); adds one sofa table and lamp(s) and in time a pair of swivel chairs. With larger coffee table you can do a wider chandelier but height of it still is limited to about 16”. Mirror over fireplace would reflect a beautiful chandelier so nicely.

I stated this a few times already….. nothing is placed back where it should be.

the sofa is typically pulled out further, the coffee table, centered, the end tables pulled forward. I quickly took a photo to post, just to give an idea of the room , and I mentioned this in the post to please disregard the decor/ etc, as i am rearranging and cleaning up after the holiday decorations.

we have been using the coffee table for about 7 months now and we all reach it just fine. the dimensions are what is recommended for my sofa size (2/3 )

We are very happy with it, we like the light and airy feel of it, and we dont want large sized furniture crowding the room.

My post was asking about chandelier size. That is why I posted the room size and table size, so hopefully thise dimensions could help me figure out what size chandelier to look at.

We have no issue with the coffee table and planned and ordered items according to proper sizing, as well as choosing items to fit our taste for a light and airy feel. We would rather have a few more inches to walk or move around, then be boxed in with bigger furniture. We like our furniture choices and are hoping to add a chandelier next.

Your coffee table is certainly not too small, especially considering your refined style.

For your size living room, and the light being centered, I’d go with the 33” size (or approx, maybe a bit less, but not more). The size of your ceiling light is not dependent on coffee table size — it’s what would look balanced centered, no matter what furniture is in the room.

Thank you Jilly!!! I appreciate you!!! thanks for digging that up, as it shows the size of the table better; even though the coffee table is not my concern at all. But this pic does show the room a bit more put together than the one i snapped quickly today. i appreciate the size recommendations. I was reading 2 schools of thought

1. room size ( which would be give or take around 30. and yes, agreed , anything over would be too big)

2. 1/2 coffee table width size (which would be 15 and yes agree with you and Beth and LaLagirl- may look way too small)

i will listen to you and the other ladies and aim for a middle ground of somewhere between 22-30; as certain fixtures are only offered in certain sizes. The size I end up with may very well be dependant on what sizes are available and closest to 30 in the fixture that I choose. At least that is 3 of you saying the same thing. I now have an idea of proper width size.

6" rod is fine, but how long is the light portion?? if it's 12", it might still be too long

the Addis chandelier in 22 wide option is 14 inches long. with 6 inch rod - woukd be 20 long. thats too tall?? its going over a coffee table , so no one is walking under it. too tall at 20 inches? i found a few other ones i liked. i’ll post

hang a string w/a balloon attached at 20". just tape it up. try to blow it up as big as you can.

Yep!! nice suggestion. i did that when choosing my kitchen pendants. it helps; will do!

here is another i like. this is 30 wide and minimun hang 23. first pic shows it over coffee table. Im not sure how high those ceilings are, but i dont see much chain in the pic, so perhaps thats the 23 minimum hang

Here’s the math. 8’ ceiling. Tall people say 6’-3” plus a 3” extra clearance leaves 18” for total drop of whatever chandy you choose. Don’t go too much wider than the narrow measurement of your coffee table. You could go wider with flush mount style fixture.

I found this fixture. I think its delicate and very pretty. I have a floral wallpaper entry ceiling, so I rhiught tbis may compliment it as well.

It’s such a pretty room - have you looked at any vintage wedding cake chandeliers? (semi flush) - a little patina would give the fixture some depth and I feel like it adds to your curated look

Any might work depending on fixture height and ceiling height. Off hand, I don’t recall your ceiling height. Personally, with your existing pieces, I like the first one a lot.

The top 2 look linear? A round might look better. The last one is unique and would cast an interesting shadow!!
