I don't know if "plain Jane" is the right word, it's unusual - kinda modernistic in a retro kind of way! When was it built? I think Id find something less yellow, more beigey-greigey for the walls and change the gray horizontal pieces to be white like the pillars - white comes forward, darker/grayer colors recede. Can you change the railing so the rails run horizontally instead of vertically - to be more consistent with the style of the house and the strong horizontal lines of the overhangs. Maybe change windows /doors but thats a topic for another time ... and a bigger budget!
