old kitchen makeover (no remodeling)

Hello! We’re about to buy a house and I would really like to refresh the look of the kitchen without remodeling! So for example, I want the walls sanded down and painted, will buy new appliances, replace hardware for cabinets (maybe even paint the cabinets!), and maybe backsplash.

But I have no clue what I want for anything listed above! Can anyone give some ideas of how I can revamp this old kitchen to look more trendy? Any inspo pics / advice would be appreciated!

I think all you might need is a new wall color, in a white that works with your cabinets, and you will have a kitchen that on trend with in the all white vein. A simple update to hardware and I think ias

New wall paint will make a big difference. Updating hardware would be a nice add. Anything else not needed. Live in the space for a while and enjoy.

I would paint it before you move in a shade close to the color of the backsplash. Personally, I don't think I could live with that shade of green for 6 months or so, which I would normally recommend.

If it were me, I could see doing new paint immediately. Then, I would live in it to see if you like the layout. In that time, I would consider the dishwasher placement (seems like it might be in the main prep space), the island (I wonder if you will use it and like it, or if it might make sense to remove it), appliance placement (mainly the fridge), and if you like the wall cut out (or if you could use additional storage in the form of uppers). I would also pay attention to how the cabinet storage works for you (maybe adding after market pullouts). After using the kitchen for a while, if everything was working well as is, then I would want to eventually update the backsplash and counters and get new appliances. I just wouldn't do anything besides paint until I was sure I liked the layout.

at least paint the window/sink side. lighter wall color there with the attractive window and light will make for a fresher feel if nothing else. from the wall w door and wreath......around to cooktop wall and along window wall...... I might price out different blinds......bamboo....solar blinds...etc... or maybe a valance across the top........the window is a feature and that side doesnt need much to play it up and give a return. You could leaave the green on the other side if you want. The big thing is the island / the pass through and cabinets beneath......how does all that function......or just occupies space ? Allow time to figure various options.

Is your home in Texas? I see that wall finish a lot. It depends on how deeply textured it is whether it can be easily made smooth. Go with a soft white paint over the green that coordinates with your cabinets. Change hardware and you’re good.

I agree with woodrose to paint the walls to match the backsplash. It’s a nice, soft neutral color that complements the carpet in the adjoining space.

I would paint the cabinets on the microwave kitchen window side that bump out where the cabinets are with the soffits I would paint that the same color as the cabinets you could leave your cut out a green or go couple Shades or more lighter green if you want but that does look good with your floor I wouldn't do more beige in the kitchen it's got enough beige with the backsplash encounter tops I know the white will make the cabinets look higher up toward the ceiling of Fillmore spacious and your ceilings will feel higher

I’ve just noticed that a very similar color was used on the stair walls. Maybe the prior owner will leave any leftover paint they may have so you can sample it in the kitchen.

I’ve added a couple of decor photos that complement the tones in the kitchen to show that beige isn’t boring.

Well Id start by getting rid of the sign that says "Farmhouse" LOL. Without a lot more work and expense its never going to be "trendy," but I think can be a better, fresher version of what it already is. What colors are in your counter, can't really tell. Could be there's your pallette right there? I agree with just continuing the pinky tones of the stairwell and the backsplash on to the kitchen wall - maybe it could be a step darker, or a step grayer just for a little variety. Basically just get it liveable for now and then as you live thereiit'll become much clearer what things you want to change and what things are ok as is.

If the current paint is in good shape you could sand and put on another coat in a new color. If it’s peeling you’d have to strip off the old paint to get a good starting surface which may not be with the time/labor - you may want to live with it a few months to evaluate the durability of the current finish.

Thanks everyone for your tips! Wow I really appreciate it!

Here is the view from the living room, what could I put in this “peeping window”…. Btw this is NOT my setup, just brainstorming makeover ideas ! Y’all are sooo great !

The eventual furniture layout of the living room will help to decide how to handle the “peeping window”. The best idea may be to ignore it.

The window is not a pass through its there for the open concept age we see everywhere. ignore that & dont place any objects on sill.

You could put a bouquet of flowers there or you could use it for sitting up at the bar and have couple of stools either wood or something else nice you could probably put to there if you want or three

Or you could use a window shade or panel, if you don't want to see into the kitchen...

I think a new wall colour and new countertop is all you need!

No no window shade over the opening you want Open Spaces be able to see and then it feels more spacious like I said you could put stools up to it and flowers or a plant

Remove the signs: “Kitchen” and “Farmhouse”.

That's already been said, several times. Re the "peeping window" I would just close it up - serves no purpose really, and looks like your living room has a lot of other breaks in the wall, every which way - sometimes less is more.

UGG it's been said a million times all you need to do is CLEAN, DECLUTTER, MAINTENANCE!! Who cares what YOU want--you are selling! Let the buyer decide if/what color for cabinetry if not white. AND heck no don't change the counters/appliances/hardware/counters--the new people will want what THEY want and there is nothing more frustrating then having to throw brand new out the door, talk about filling landfill for no good reason!! I can see painting a lighter neutral on the walls but after that CLEAN, DECLUTTER, MAINTENANCE! The rest is a crap shoot and waste as whoever buys will have their choices to make!!! Chances are fair they will do a major remodel. Don't add the guilt of new appliances thrown or new counters trashed. Price accordingly and move on. You won't get any more money because of the things you are planning anyway.

Live with it awhile. Functionality is most important.

What architectural style is your home? Design decisions can be based in that.
