I see no plants so can't comment on those . IMO you want color but you are getting another boring piece odf art in the same palette . Get some art with some color then maybe choose a color ftom that and paint the back of th niches in that color add some white items in the niches they are there so use them for some interesting maybe colored glass pieces . Arug with some color or at least pillows with some color from the art , Another piece of art in the DR . Live a little get things you love in colors you love .

Right now I am focusing on art by the new table and accent colors. I was thinking some oil paintings from etsy for texture.... and maybe put a nice colored chair next to it? Thoughts? Thank you! I think I will put one of my large white bird of paradise or money tree there - as they are my favorite. Art wise- I was just trying to steer from color because due to the size of artwork I will need (larger) it will be expensive... so I was thinking neutral so I don't get tired of it. I was planning on using color in throws, pillows, decor such as glass vases etc. Woudl that still be too neutral and washed out? And unfortunately, the rug is new so I can't get a new one at the moment.

You have a beautiful open space and gorgeous light. Consider an icy pale sky blue for the walls which is perfect a background for plants and the color of your sofa.

I love the suggestions for painting the back of the niches and don't be afraid of a bright contrasting color for the niches. 1/2" clear glass shelves will enhance the niches and accessories.

That wall is an important focus and should be designed as such to streamline the openings, doors and height. Consider blocking areas, wall to wall - see pic below - to create a cohesive elevation on that entire wall.

Art is so subjective, black and white or color. Your space can handle a large colorful piece on the wall over the console with artistic light sconces ( I see your have outlets already there).

I was thinking neutral so I don't get tired of it.

Builders use all neutrals so they don't turn buyers off who don't like a specific color, but you are decorating your home, your not decorating to sell to some anonymous buyer.

Somehow this has become the decorating trend. Don't make anything personal, keep everything neutral. Neutrals are easy to decorate with. You can pick any color you want if you start with neutral. You won't need to redecorate if you just stick with neutrals.

But we moved from builders beige to gray to greige to white and now are seeing more warm neutrals (beige/taupe) again, but this time lighter shades.

Follow the trends and you decorate every 5-10 years and have to keep replacing everything. Follow your heart and you can collect pieces you will love for decades.

What are your favorite colors? What colors make you feel like a 10? What colors draw you to them when you are shopping? What colors fill your heart with joy?

I don't know many people who say wearing beige makes me feel sexy and desirable or catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror when I am wearing black makes my heart sing or looking out over the smoggy gray horizon makes me feel joy.

Colors bring joy to our lives. Seeing colors that remind us of happy memories increases dopamine production.

The people I know that are happiest with their interior design start with the colors they love and pick their neutrals as the back drop to enhance the beauty of the things they own that are the colors that they love.

Picking art isn't about finding something that fits the space, it is about finding a piece of art that speaks to you. That piece that you look at and keep coming back to and no matter how many times you tell yourself you don't need it you can't help coming back to look at it again and no matter how many times you say your shouldn't spend that much on another piece of art, you know it will bring you more joy that 100 Starbucks coffees and decide that it is worth giving up your daily coffee to own this one beautiful piece that will make you smile every time you enter the room where it is hanging.

Go to juried art shows and walk through and look at hundreds of pieces of art and find that one that pulls you to it like a teenage crush.

Decorate your home by surrounding yourself with the colors that bring you joy and art and décor that you love.

For art also check estate sales, thrift stores, art fairs. I'm not sure you won't get tired of neutral art work. If I was getting a large expensive piece of art, I want to love it, not just have a something blend in.

I agree with getting some art with some vibrancy and life and color. Right now your house looks like a sepia photograph. It's a nice house and you have nice things but there is nothing to reflect what you might love (like the plants)! Since you do love plants what about a wonderful painting of plants/nature? I can't imagine you would tire of that, since it's your love. Just some random ideas. A couple of these are photos. all from art dot com, but I'll bet you could find some you love at other sites or locally.

You have enough room to do a couple of complementary/related pieces. Maybe by the same artist or photographer or subject.

Also, I would lower your curtains so the transoms show. The architect who designed them did not mean for them to be covered. They would add dimension to your space.

@jennifer hogan yes, you are absolutely right! I like jewel tones... so maybe I can stick with something like this... still not too wild but has some color? Not this piece exactly, as I can't afford that at the moment.

One option for inexpensive art is high-quality, nicely-framed pictures you took of a favorite place on a lovely day or of your family.

Everyone's taste in art is very personal, so I can't say that you shouldn't love the two rocks on canvas, but for $1200 I would want something I would love forever and something that made my heart sing with joy.

I have bought art for $1200 or more, but those were few and far between and had to be something truly exceptional, usually bought from the original artist and framed, limited edition hand touched giclée.

These I would consider for $500 or less. (Actually the last one I do want, but not in a smaller size for a less prominent place in my home.)
