Marenakos, located just east of Issaquah, has easily the widest selection of stone of all variety in western Washington. They carry a huge selection of flagstone, including sandstone, but I'd caution against using sandstone in a PNW climate. It can be very slippery when wet!!

Whenever I use stone in a design I try to use stone that can be found locally in nature. It helps give the feel of the home emerging from the site as opposed to being plopped upon it.

Mark - I’m working towards that as much as my Texas/Montana ranch loving heart can stand. I don’t know a lot about the stone in our area yet but I’m doing some research. The north cascades has some beautiful terracotta/warm tones in the rock as you cross into the north eastern part of the state. We are located in the north west corner. Our property is mostly hay fields with a view of Mount Baker and the cascade foothills. So far all we have set in stone (😏) is old growth cedar board and batten, wood or fake wood back porch and a metal roof. I’d like to use some type of flagstone on the front porch and back patio and a screen door. Our forever house needs a couple of my sprawling ranch favorites.
