you don't need a ceiling fan in a kitchen, you have a vent.

Mix fixtures, semi flush mount, pendants, undercabinet lighting... get rid of the boob lights and pick a style that has a couple complimentary styles the compliment each other.

We have a stained wood kitchen with three layers of light…recessed, semi flush, and under cabinet. At the kitchen table, there are staggard pendants. Even at night, the room is quite bright.

The recessed lighting is discreet, just a few inches from the edge of the upper cabs. They light the cabinets and the counters.
