Clipped or Flat Ceiling

We are working on plans for building our new house and are conflicted on the overall height, which influences the front elevation appearance as well as the 2nd floor ceiling height. If we go with the taller front elevation, we can have 9' ceilings throughout the 2nd floor. If we go with the lower front elevation, we will have clipped ceilings in the bedrooms (we could vault the ceilings higher than 9' to help with the lower ceiling height at the edges of the rooms). Please let me know if the clipped ceiling approach would be a big mistake as I think I prefer the shorter overall building height. Thanks!
