IMo a rip out it is really too much for such a small range and over powering and in black even more so.

Paint it the same color as the walls and cabinets, which are a really nice shade of white by the way.

black looks better but the wall could take details....like the brackets on these open shelves or the detail of black on the wall sconces...do you envision something you could add onto the wall?

Below: wall sconces w some black or the brackets/ frames of some shelves ...then your black choice looks good . your wall looks a little too bare. If you dont want anything on the wall then do the white.

You have a lot change in this area - floor change, cabinets change to dark range and then back to cabinets, and a beam crunched up against the hood. The last thing you need is one more change in this area - white wall with big black disruption. Keeping it white helps smooth out an area that already has a lot going on.

I would suggest white with a nice piece of art with some black detail in it.
