Try a shorter version by using an S-hook ($3) to shorten/loop the chain all the way up. That will tell you if a new semi-flush fixture would be less obtrusive. Note that if you choose a flush fixture, your cabinets and interiors will not be nearly as well lit as they are now. A semi-flush fixture that drops just below the tray edge would probably work. Choose one with a white finish to it blends in. An alternative would be a custom installation of dimmable LED light panels that completely covers the interior tray minus the vent.

Do you need such a large table in the kitchen? Do you also have a dining room?

I'd find a rectangular fixture with a swag option.

This area was not well thought out when designed. Even a smaller round table placed under the chandelier will be cramped between the fridge and hutch/cabinets on back wall.

Chispa you are absolutely correct. We didn’t work with an interior designer just an architect. Unfortunately there’s little we can do to change it.

Paul F yes our formal DR is there. Those chairs u see are actually spare ones for the kitchen. We got 6 in total and the two extra reside in a spare bedroom. We decided to keep the bench for our kitchen table rather than have 6 chairs.

We use our kitchen table 99% of the time even though we do have a formal DR. Our DR table only seats 6: Even if the table were smaller the light would never be centered above it.

You may be able to find an asymmetrical chandelier that suits your style.

How about LED strip/tape lights around the edge of either the inner rectangle (where the heat register is) or the vault? You wouldn't necessarily have to go all the way around; you could use two parallel strips instead.

I think the pot light would look the best since you already have some in the kitchen. Since your husband does not want that, then I would go with a flush light.
