Pottery Barn Sectional Fabric Choice

last year

Hello! I’m purchasing the PB Buchanan sectional and need to decide on fabric. My top selections are:

  1. Midnight, Basketweave Slub
  2. Oatmeal, Performance Heathered Basketweave

I wanted a darker couch and love the midnight color and texture. The midnight is also on sale and significantly cheaper. I have two kids and a cat who sometimes scratches so I am worried about it not being a performance fabric.

Does anyone have experience with either fabric? If it’s a dark fabric does it matter if it’s performance?

This is the midnight in a larger swatch on the couch.

What color is your cat's fur?

That would be my first consideration.

I feel like the midnight would show every crumb, piece of lint etc - if it were me, i’d try something more forgiving

My cat is a dark gray :)

Considering a pet and kids, the oatmeal looks like it would be more forgiving than midnight.

Interesting as my thought was the opposite. My fear was my kids will destroy a light color luke oatmeal. Was thinking the navy (which does look darker in the photos) would be more forgiving. I need to think about this!

I would go for the performance fabric. Do you know what they use and how it can be cleaned?

    Both can be machined washed

I think the Oatmeal is prettier for my taste but you need to go with your gut and what is best for your life & budget. I’m also in market and will probably stick to leather because my two dogs and cat destroy all fabric.

Thank you! I love leather too however my last couch was leather and my cat destroyed it with their claws. I think he liked the smell??

Another thing I should add is my room is painted with Ballet white (an off white) and trim is white. It’s a very light and bright room. I’m thinking the contrast of the navy couch would look nice but so would the oatmeal.

Go with the one you're most comfortable with for the usage. You may want to replace in a few years. My two cats would love to get their claws in that fabric! After 3 sofa's I've finally landed on a velvet sofa and chair and they leave these alone :)

Interesting! I loved the look of the velvet and thought it might be good for the cat! looked at the velvet swatches and lint attached to it like a magnet. Do you have issues with keeping it clean?

I keep a sofa protector on the velvet sofa most days, and use a lint roller for clean ups as needed. And my sofa is ivory color - ha! It is a velvet performance fabric. Sofa from Bassett.

Thanks for sharing!! I’m going to take a look at Bassett today!
