I think black grout on white tile can be very attractive. However, this tile and installation is not made for black grout. It will just highlight the unevenness, unfortunately.

Those are bull nose tile in pic 3. 30+ years ago, before Sluter trim, this was how one finished out tile. It looks wonky because those 2 seams almost line up instead of being more staggered.

By far not the worst tile job I've seen. You've done a good job with black lines on the test area so far. We just finished a tile job and chose to do a vertical row like in your last pic because we think Schluter looks tacky. I'm not sure what your question is about it though. I would all the groutlines on that black as well. It looks like the far right vertical edge needs to be painted over some yellowish caulking or old paint.

I guess they should have stopped at the cabinets if they were going to finish it wrong lol

I agree with Kendrah. I really don't care if bullnose is considered dated by some. I prefer the look of bullnose to Schluter because it blends in so well--hardly noticeable, and in my case it worked out really well with the tile spacing for the rest of this run. You should definitely line up the grout lines if you are going to use bullnose. I also prefer to line up the edge of the tile with the upper cabinet instead of the countertop.

Do you have a stove (range) or some kind of free standing oven?

jo mo, have you tiled before or had tile work done in your house? There are often trade offs to made. Perhaps having the tile hang our that small amount, left them with the whole tile there and not a cut edge but allowed the tile to work out great at the other end. That end may not have bothered the person it was being done for.

Yes I have had tile work done and you don't need to be tiler to see that wasnt done correctly and there were several better solutions

whether to end it early to at least hide the wonky under the cabinets or even the apparently oh so hated schutler

I dont dislike bull nose but why couldn't they lay them out in such a way that isn't someone just cutting one and leaving the tiny unfinished side up 🤦🏻‍♀️ ....theres corner bullnose tile that could have finished out that corner.
