This one has no name, just big blue. Could be Elegans? It has white flowers. One of my first hostas. I love it.

This is Silver Bay behind the Lobelia. Pic was taken August 5th and still vividly blue.

Beautiful blues all. I think to capture great blue color is so dependant on time of day (light) and time of year when they are prime. I've had better timing in past years.

hosta_maker yes please a very large upright blue with purple/red tints is definitely a worthy goal. Any plan to make yours available in Canada?

All beautiful blues here…. Saija, another vote for Elegans.

Peren, you have soooo many good ones…. It seems each better than the last. Your Blue Angel has beautiful coloring and your Cupatini is why I bought mine. Also ordered Gemstone due to your enabling…hahaha!

Hosta_maker, I’m with peren, more blue with purple/red. Love the ones you are showing here!

Indianagg, I bought Silver Bay last year….can’t wait for it to get as big and blue as yours!

Ann, your Elegans is soo blue…..and big! Maybe try BME in a pot for awhile or dig it up to see what’s hindering its growth……

Gardenho, terrific Elegans! Your Halcyons shine like a blue beacon over on the tree area. Gorgeous!

Paula, Hadspen Blue is a good blue to start with. Yours has very nice color!

Utog, all four of yours look great! My favs are Mystic Star and Infatuation……sooo blue….wow!

Old_dirt, I agree with you about catching the blue in pictures. Your Blue Angel and Krossa Regal are actually quite stunning!

Beth, I love the shape of your Blue Angel….it spreads out like an open umbrella…..my BA leaves touch the ground. Also, I don’t think I’ve seen a Fragrant Blue that big.

Blues are by far my favorites….loving this thread!

Old dirt I agree on the timing for good color. Here are a couple that I was able to capture at a good time…

Gardenho, I’m guessing….. I see several Touch of Class, Blue Ivory or Ben Vernooj (have trouble telling those apart) and Hadspen Blue. All beautifully blue. Let me know if I’m right or wrong!

Debra, the difference between 'Blue Ivory' and Ben Vernooij' is easy to see, particularly early in the season. For me it's telling 'Firn Line' and 'Blue Ivory' apart. Here's a "family portrait". Starting center top: 'First Frost' and 'Firn Line' to the left of that, then below 'Firn Line' is 'Blue Ivory' (now you see why I've got difficulty telling them apart) and below that at the 3 o'clock position is 'Ben Vernooij'. Coming across to the left is 'Touch of Frost' and then another 'Blue Ivory' with 'Bulletproof' at 7 o'clock . Directly above that is 'Touch of Class' x2 and that's been a very unstable plant for me, throwing the 2 'Touch of Frost' sports to the right of it. At 9 o'clock just peeking into the image is 'Ripple Effect', To the left of 'First Frost' is 'Remember Me' and to the left of THAT is "Sleeping Beauty'.....and they're all related!

    Pieter

P.S. Quite possibly the reason I have difficulty with my 'Firn Line' and 'Blue Ivory' is because one of them is mis-labeled....likely the 'Firn Line'... but that's for another day...

Debra yes Touch of class but with Autumn frost and Halcyon. Confusing I know lol

Im guessing First and Autumn frost are one in the same? They sure look alike to my eye…

Pieter, so Ben Vernooj is the hosta with the yellow edge? I see First Frost and Firn Line, but I only see one Blue Ivory sort of hidden by that terrific Bulletproof. I don’t see another BI….. but yikes! It is confusing!

Gardenho, according to the HL, Autumn Frost is a sport of First Frost and supposedly has a wider margin. On my AF, the margin is wider and also more yellow. My FF has a thinner margin and so appears more blue to the eye in my garden.

Thanks Deb, and yikes is right! I’d need to see these side by side for these old eyes to differentiate!

Debra, there's a 'Blue Ivory' sandwiched between the 'Firn Line' and 'Ben Vernooij'. And it looks an awful lot like the 'Firn Line' above it, I'm hard pressed to tell the difference between them without looking at the label......

Just for fun, use the comparison routine to look at the HL pics side-by-side...

It seems that the comparison feature does not work on Apple ios which is what I have. Ipad and Mac desktop. Is that true?

Debra, I'm sorry to NOT have sent you to the landing page. It contains the following statement:

One of the things that have come to light is that the routine does NOT work on Apple iPad or iPhone without changing a setting in Safari to enable Javascript, just do a web search for how to change the setting. The routine relies on the use of Javascript, which is something Apple has abandoned as a default setting over security concerns in iOS. I have no particular appetite to explore porting the routine into a different programming format at the moment. It is what it is....developed primarily for Windows PC.
