Yes, that is a fabulous fireplace.

Can you be more specific? Hard to know how to advise without more information on what you are trying to achieve! And, we need better pictures - not only of the fireplace but surrounding spaces too.

Personally, I like the fireplace. I would clean off the soot and then stain the grout a bit deeper greige color. And, paint the walls to remove the discoloration. A soft sage would be great with the fireplace and floor. Then, I'd strip your table and stain it a tone more like the floor and chairs.

Without seeing it in the context of the room or home, I have no suggestions. Because of the heat exchange feature, it's going to be hard to work around those vents.

Wow! Can you step all the way back and take another picture? At the very least, get rid of the duck and the boat. A flat screen to replace the trifold.

New fireplace screen, either a rectangular free-standing one or the kind that are built into the firebox (that hang from the top and pull to the side). Cleaning off the soot n the stone and ceiling would likely do wonders. And, along the lines of previous commenter’s “embrace it,” maybe some canned lights above to highlight it as a feature wall? Lighting would also help to prevent it from feeling like a dark, shadowy thing in the corner. I don’t think you need to put anything on the shelves, but if you do, maybe some tiny potted succulents or MCM art?

That looks like it has a heat-o-later system or similar, judging from the brick ductwork. All you need is a fitted set of doors to make it a fantastic space heater.

I need to see the whole space please post pics here in a comment DO NOT start another post. I have to say I do not find it beautiful but I need context.

If you are wanting to modify your fireplace but not remove it I will suggest the tried and true technique of German smear. It is essentially applying grout to the surface of the stone . Attached is a photo of the technique.

Did you do anything yet with this fireplace?

If not, I would suggest starting with a good professional super clean. It will look totally different. Then see what you think.

I like the duck and the boat but they ( along with whatever has that blue cap on it ) need to go elsewhere - they are the wrong size. Get some things that are larger and perhaps more colorful.
