matte should not scratch or have those type of problems. What was on the wall before you painted. What prep did you do? Has the new paint cured yet?

It was a white base paint, it had dried completely by a few days. Is that the problem?

Matte is not as durable as eggshell finishes in any brand, but a high quality brand (BM Aura, Regal Select, Scuff X, SW Emerald or Duration lines are much better than other brands or lower end lines in these brands.

What brand and line did you use?

I used Sigma paint

I ha e had this happen with black paint in matte too and I used Benjamin Moore Aura. Very frustrating

Hopefully, the wall was cleaned well before you put any paint on. Was the white base paint, latex or oil based? If oil based, it should have been primered before you painted. If the white paint underneath was latex and you did clean the wall, then, I would give it a few days to cure, and see if it gets better.

now I'm realising it gets easily stained, scratched or marked with white dust and unable to wipe it off.

What is staining it? What is scratching it? Where is the white dust coming from?

I used a dark benjamin moore matte in regal select and I have the same issue

I feel like the lightest touch creates a white dusty mark....you can wipe it but it's frustrating im going to repaint soon for other reasons and im going to try scuffx in matte I hear its more shiny =/ but mine is on a hallway entry so I need it

I think covering it in 1 coat of the eggshell finish will solve it or scuffx matte as I mentioned before

I used a white eggshell finish regal select so I cant say for sure that it doesn't get dusty but it feels like a good quality finished almost like a hardened protective layer vs matte feels dusty

It doesn't matter the color its the Matte finish. It scuffs and marks by the littlest touch. You can keep the color by moving away from Matte and trying egg shell.

I am not familiar with Sigma paint, so I don't know the quality. I do know that flat and matte finishes are more prone to damage. The white marks on dark walls is often due to the ingredients that make the paint finish not shine (think - adding talc to dull the finish).

I typically only use eggshell finishes on my walls. I don't like repainting and want something that is not overly shiny, but also durable and easy to clean.

I don't know of any product that you could use over the paint to preserve the matte finish and make the finish more durable. I have used clear coats in a matte finish on painted furniture, but never on a wall. I don't think that those types of sprays are truly matte, probably closer to an eggshell finish. Talk to the paint store where you bought your paint and see what they recommend.

I too, use only eggshell paint. It does shine a bit more than matte, but, its not really noticable. It holds up well. In bathrooms, and laundry I do use satin on the walls, and it does have a sheen, but, clean up is quick and easy and it stays nice looking for years.

I would just so a coat of eggshell. i have bm regal matte in my bedroom (light color though) which has been fine. my only dark paint is F&B modern emulsion in bathroom which wipes up great, as does aura bath and spa matte. i did choose eggshell for hallway area because my kid had totally made a disaster of the flat paint there!
