No personal experience in zone 6b but it should do okay. Very likely to drop foliage in zones lower than 8 and can die back to the roots in colder climates. Shorter or dwarf varieties - Firepower and several of the cultivars you mention - seem to be slightly more cold weather tolerant.

btw, Nandina is a monotypic genus so no hybrids....just cultivars bred and selected for specific features.

I am thinking to plant a row of them in a bed, just not sure if they should be the front row or the back row of the bed lol. I'm trying to understand whether to expect them to get to the full size advertised. And I really like the flirts... but wondering if they'd be a good choice for Ohio.

Thanks Dave, that's really helpful and sounds promising. Looking only at sterile ones, but most years it doesn't get below 0, and I can't even remember a temp below -5.

sara82lee, I live in WV formerly zone 6b now 7a. I planted rows of all three types of nandina you mentioned. They looked great at first and it was so nice to see their color in the drab winter—however they all declined severely over a couple years. I replaced/replanted; same outcome. Ultimately decided nandina were never going to remain healthy in my heavy clay, high wind area.
