LED ceiling lights - filter?

Hi - I have some LED pot lights or recessed ceiling lights that were fairly recently installed. They are brighter than I like, but the electricians had told me at the time that the bulbs inside cannot be replaced, the whole fixture would have to be replaced. I was wondering, instead of going through all that, could I just put some plastic piece (like a photography filter maybe) over the light to cut down the glare a bit? Carefully, so it wouldn't look terrible. I was going to add dimmers but another chandelier on the same circuit is some special light that can't be hooked to a standard dimmer. Thanks!
