Eastern hemlock MD champ
I've been in Swallow Falls State Park (extreme west MD) and seen alot of nice hemlocks -- didn't catch this one tho. Don't know if it's a "virgin" tree.

Arbordave, that I'm not sure of. Certainly it has been thru my area 15 yrs ago and I'm only a county away from there. The adelgid seems to be stumbling a bit as it goes west -- continues to show up in my area only intermittently now and deaths of remaining hemlocks not occurring much now (but continue to be stressed). Brother just north of me has a wide 25 footer that has the adelgid off and on, but it weathers them without much visual effect.
Many types of foreign pests show up and have a field day at first, but eventually something (a disease, fungus, predator, etc) catches up with them and they begin to slow down considerably -- Gypsy moth is an example here.
Edit: Got me curious, recent map shows that it has gone thru west MD and further west quite a bit.
