landing treatment

We had wood floors installed at beach house over the winter. To save money, we opted to just pain the stairs and add a runner. I just noticed the landing is wood flooring and not painted like the steps. The continuity of the runner will be affected as the exposed sides will be wood, not black paint. What do you think?

I do think it would be odd to carpet the landing and not paint it black.

Either: A.) Keep the landing wood and uncarpeted like this first photo. You might be bothered that the lowest stairs are black then broken up by and uncarpeted floor of a different color, but it is personal choice, and if it doesn't bother you then great! Or B.) Paint the landing black and carpet.

Waht are the stairs from the landing to the upper floor ? You knew this when the flooring was being done so I need a bit more info . From what I can see I would paint the landing but the runner will be anissue for nstall on that landing anyway . Have you figured out how to keep that from being walked on since painted treads do not stand up well.

I think the landing is part of the stairs and should be painted black.

Thank you all for input. The night photo was taken by contractor as I’m in another state. The steps going up are black like the 2 on the bottom. I intended to have only a few inches on each side showing once a runner was installed. I’ve decided I must have the runner make the turn on the landing due to dog running down the steps and making the turn. My mind couldn’t tolerate a wood tone border on landing so it must be painted like the steps prior to the runner installation. Thanks for helping me walk through this!
