Bathrooms Design Dilemma

Backsplash height needed to accommodate a shelf

We will be renovating our bathroom soon and I am wondering how tall the backsplash needs to be to accommodate a shelf above it, such as these photos. Has anyone done something similar? We plan to install a single handle faucet and I’m wondering if there would need to be more clearance than with a double handle faucet?

depends on how tall the people using the sink/countertop.

you need to clear the faucet, for sure, but you also want to look straight into the mirror.

Good question. A quick Google returned 4" to 10" between top of counter and bottom of mirror. I noticed in the pictures the faucets fit under the shelf. I also read the height of the bottom of the mirror should be lower for a shorter user. A mirror I hung turned out to be too tall for me. I can use it but it's not the best. I like wall-mounted faucets, so I hope some expert or two give you a good answer.
