I rubbed one Off -Hidden Dormant Buds on Old Growth

In my last 5 years...never have rubbed a new bud off. I did it this year working on form.

This year, I cut back hard on some 2 stumpers....it has some oddball framework of 3-4 green canes left.

I spied new bud emerging from the stump but I already had a cane in that direction. So I -rubbed it off-....Now maybe a week or 10 days later, congrats I suppose as I see new growth in the same proximity but on the opposite side, which is just perfect for a new cane.

I wish it was more a basal break, but I've reached the point where at least I'm not concerned about taking out the Silky Saw and taking out large chunks to see what may regrow back in it's place...

I can't tell if your title is just very unfortunate or if you truly meant to share how very, ahem, *exciting* you find dormant buds to be.

Ha, Ha, Magpie, I love that. A1an, you might be our most OCD member. I have total chaos over here letting roses do whatever they want so we have the whole spectrum.

I suppose with all things hobbys, it's the OCD me in......I really am shooting for this stars this year in doing some major hard pruning - eliminating energy as a feasiable means to let it refocus it from something down below. Success, but hopefully the next new ones will be soil line level

OMG. So this is going to be a '24 thing for me. If I'm out doing weeding, mulcing, etc, I am spying the canes. If I spot a inward growing shoot and I know it won't detract, I've been snapping or rubbing the new growth off.

I have no idea if this works, but I'm removing energy uptop - in hopes of displacing it back so something from soil line comes up. Wishful thinking. Maybe. Gotta try it for this year.
