Or............solve the problem entirely with no tile, Get more quartz, and use it as a full back splash.

Done : ) No tile, no grout. No decision at all.

Tell them to GET OVER IT.: ) Tile is a two day affair that can be done a year from now, especially if tiling only to hood bottom. Even if going behind the hood? You remove it, trace , install tile to just behind and put the hood back in.

Do the arabesque as a very TALL riser to a height of eight or nine inches, and also....forget the tile. Cut in the outlets into the splash. No fuss, no grout.

Partial as first to any height you like, just a lot taller than the standard 4 " ....or go for it. Full height
