You may not think that lighting has a lot of impact on a living room, but the atmosphere is really affected. The problem with ceiling lights in a living room is it kind of looks like a hospital. Ceiling lighting is not the best for this type of room. Please be sure to put that on a dimmer. Best lighting to start with for this type of room is a table lamp at chest height in each corner.

Can you stand back and take a picture with all the lights on? Although the one corner lamp is very orange. I would probably go with a light curtain panel with a gray pattern and maybe sheers in the middle if you need privacy or to filter light.

For a "moody" space, they are too flimsy, You'll need heavier, richer materials that have more body to them.

Have you thought about a light airy gauze curtain with a floral or leaf design and looks like it was water colored? One that picks up the charcoal and also color of chair.

The ivory background of the rug or the limestone color of the fireplace would be good to try. Or you could try patterned curtains - check Anthropologie's website for some unusual prints and woven patterns.

I'm smitten with olive green curtains. I think the issue has to do with your fabric choice. Colored sheers are kind of yucky, and the fabric choices look sort of cheap.

Do you want curtains for privacy, for filtering light, or are the .merely decorative and will stay open most of the time? What is your budget?

While your colors are rather neutral, they are dense and heavy - stone, leather, dark saturated sofa color. Instead of a sheer and light curtain, which contrasts the heavy objects, I'd look for heavy fabric like velvet, or if you think the look is too heavy, a quality lined linen.

You also need to find an olive or moss that is not too dark otherwise it looks like you were trying to match the charcoal but missed. Have you searched for the color moss instead of olive green? Sometimes moss will yield a slightly brighter olive. It could be a good contrast to your charcoal - or not!

Ready made curtains might not work for your taste, but (don't laugh) I have found very well made curtain panels from JCPenney and they also do custom. Also Anthropologie - if they are to light filtering, you can add a blackout lining.

Sheers will not get you the moody style you want. Consider a lined printed linen with some simple edge trim and add woven shades behind. Finding a solid to blend with the dark sofa would be difficult, even for a professional. It all depends on the light, time of day, and fullness. Consider a print incorporating the colors of your room.

If you are on selection #12, think neutral, blah curtains blending into walls might be your best choice.

Instead of white or gray, you might be better off with natural linen or flax color.
