Remodel floorplan feedback

We have a house that needs extensive updating as well as reworking the floorplan to suite our needs. It's situated on a beautiful wooded lot with a great view out the back. Here is a list of our needs/wants...

Main Floor:

- Remove stairs breaking up current kitchen/dining/living room. Stack stairs to basement in foyer

- Need a computer room for family (5 computers)

- Activity/craft area that’s usually a messy table with lots of supplies

- Work from home office

- Music area for piano and cello

- Maintain guest bedroom on main floor

- Add mudroom and laundry to main floor

- Make Bonus room feel more connected to house

- Ability to hide countertop appliances

Second Floor:

- Connect bonus room through hall instead of bedroom

- 2nd floor laundry

- Maintain 5 bedroom/bathroom

Given those thoughts, any feedback on the floorplan changes we've made?

It looks like the bonus room is accessible from the family room. Why do you want it accessible from the bedrooms?

changing formal dining and living to suit the way you live makes total sense.

I would make sure that all the upstairs baths have windows in them; swap closet space with bathrooms. I would also think that reversing the location of the kitchen to be closer to the garage/mudroom would make sense. But that is a huge change. I think the computer and craft rooms are well located in your new plan. But the kitchen relative to the garage, not so much.

Your new kitchen seems huge, yet you will only have seating for 4 people ?

Knocking that down and starting over will give you the large open home that you want. Piecemealing it out of this home is going to cost you more than the teardown. With none of the positives of a new house.

Consider eliminating the curved stair and replace it with a straight stair with a straight stair to the basement beneath it.

    - not sure how the bonus room will be used, could become a practice room for the kids. just seems to make sense to connect them.

    - we tried to come up with a good layout that moved the kitchen near the garage but we couldn't come up with something we liked. i was worried the current kitchen space wouldnt give is enough space for the living room. have any suggestions?

    - straight stairs: there is a cement block wall in the basement that would prevent us from taking the stairs straight down into the basement from the foyer. (the block wall lines up with the proposed powder bath and storage closet wall next to the curved stairs.

    - seating in kitchen, i cant measure the island at them moment to verify the length and how many seats it can accomodate. But here is a picture that shows how we think the space will be used with furniture.

I have a question, how many people use the computers? In our house we have 5 as well, but i cant imagine them all in one room as 4 us use them.

All five of us have desktops. right now we have the 4 in one room, all three kids’ plus my husband’s gaming computer. they wear headphones when playing different games. but its great when they all play together. it might be a little loud for me as I'm not used to it. 😂

I'm seeing 2 different levels into the garage. I'm not gettig that. Anyway, I'd give up the first-floor laundry when you have one on the second floor. That space could be mudroom. You need the proposed mudroom space for the living room.
