I started a couple of rhizomes for Johnson's blue and one of them (the thicker stronger one has these stubby, super thick, hard pale colored leaves. It makes me think of the African violets, peppers, torenias and dahlias that I believe were infected by broad mites (the source being the African violet). The plants start making thick, distorted, curled leaves, the growth stunts, the buds fail to develop. Being microscopic, it is hard to be sure. Chopping off the infected parts helps a bit but not much. I have previously tried the hot water treatment and even miticide (Oberon 4sc) with little success. It's now in my growing space and strikes at will. Someone please tell me this is just weird stuff sprouting cranesbill geraniums do and nothing to wood about.
