Oh bummer that I missed this! I've wanted Chandos Beauty for a long time and they had it!

Online bids ended at noon today. I was outbid on both roses I wanted, one was Augusta Louise oh well this is my 3rd attempt to buy from anyone, anywhere this year. I tried last year too. I'm going to a rose show to see if I can beg for cuttings at least if I can't buy a plant. Arrrgh!

Fingers crossed I get a rose or two! I’ve already been outbid on one I wanted, but I have a few more in the running. It would be neat if they live streamed.

Last year I bid on huntingtons pink ice . I won it at 60ish dollars but I was prepared to get to 100 if I had to ! It was so exciting to win . I was fortunate to pick it up at a members gorgeous garden and was blown away by how many rare roses they managed . They have a wonderful collection.

Thanks, Ben. Princess Chichibu is an interesting looking rose, especially the coloring, plus I learned something new. I'd never heard of it before. I remember when Simsalabim would bring outrageous prices. I enjoyed the competition. And on to your glorious Golden Zest. Who needs Bring Me, etc, when you can grow a Golden Zest? I love it. On HMF the photos were enough to convince me what I've been missing, plus it has such big blooms. I would love to see more photos of your rose as it progresses and read about how Golden Zest is doing in your garden. How long have you grown it, and do you mind telling us when you got this gorgeous thing? Thanks for posting this photo. I wonder if it is too late to bid--ha. Diane

Does anyone know where the rose, Golden Zest, is available for sale? I missed my bidding opportunity because I didn't know what a gorgeous rose it is. Check HMF. It puts Bring Me Whatever to shame.

I won several including Candice and Ibiza! Diane, I would email CCRS and ask. I know the website doesn’t have the final prices from the auction.

Diane, I don't have anything to do with the auction but I would imagine that if the plant is still available, you should be able to work something out with them. I'd email to ask. I messaged John and another friend there to let them know you were interested. I'll let you know what, if anything, I hear back, but if you want the plant and it hasn't sold, I'm sure they'd rather see you buy it than sit on it. Good luck!

Yes, I think I’m very lucky to have Golden Zest in addition to that dud, Bring Me Sunshine. Golden Zest has so far been exactly what I hoped, a big bloom, the best sort of Austin form, but much stronger petals….it developed quite a good reputation worldwide despite being only sold in the US a few years. It grows at The Huntington and I was told hot weather perfomance is better than the yellow Austins. Mine came from RU. J&P bought it back from the vault just this year, and it sold out almost immediately. I hope you get that auction rose!

Oh, I think Golden Celebration is one of Golden Zest's parents, and that rose is one of my best Austin's, a near continuous bloomer even in the heat. Diane

Kim, I couldn't find a proper email address, just the Save the Roses webpage. Any suggestions? I'm also now concerned about their being able to ship a rose to Idaho, which has very restrictive rules about the importation of plant material. Meanwhile, I hope to figure out something. Thanks for putting up with me.

By the way, I am very taken with Ralph Moore's wonderful climber, Pink Powderpuff, which is just shear rose beauty. I can't grow anymore climbers, because I'm no longer climbing myself. Do you have any interesting info on this enchanting rose beyond what's on its HMF page? Thanks, Diane

Diane, I received a text back, "All roses were sold at the auction. They don't update on line after it closes on Friday, so it appears there were some unsold roses." Oh, well, it was fun to contemplate! Sorry about that.

I'm sorry, Diane, I forgot about your question concerning Pink Powderpuff. Mr. Moore showed that to Judy Morgan Miller, Sharon VanEnoo and I as a seedling eons ago and asked, "would anyone buy it?" He knew he could sell minis but something like this or any of his other really neat non minis were totally outside of his wheel house. OF COURSE he could sell it! We tore apart flowers to count petals and stopped at 135! The foliage is gorgeous, blooms huge and they SMELL so good! At Sharon's garden in Torrance, CA, just over the rise from the Pacific, it's a huge climber on her rear fence. It flowers spring through fall and even sprung up several feet from the original plant where a root found the surface in a wet spot and a new plant started from it. It's a remarkable result from a semi double climber crossed with a nearly single HT. I'm delighted he listened to us and released it. It's definitely one of many of his creations I hope hangs around for MANY years to come!

Diane, I bought a Golden Zest from Roses Unlimited in 2023. It is still in their listings for 2024.

Kim, thanks for your first hand information on this stunning Ralph Moore rose, Pink Powderpuff. How I wish I had the space for it, and someone younger to climb a stepladder when it might need some trimming. The photos on HMF are gorgeous, and I wish there were more. And, yes, I hope this rose is grown for many decades to come. Thanks again.
