It's a beautiful day here. We got a good rain the other day and the plants seems to be recovering from the frost damage. Some of the scapes on H. minor got frosted, but I think some survived.

We have been working in the daylilies. We got the bed for the seedlings tilled and covered with landscape fabric. When we were out working, we discovered this variegated daylily. The cross is O Positive X Ahoya. Most variegated daylilies are weaklings, but this one looks pretty good. We'll keep an eye on it.

The daffodils are almost done and the tulips are starting. We don't grow many tulips because we have tunneling critters that would eat the bulbs and many tulips don't come reliably back. But here is one nice clump that was planted two years ago. To keep the critters away, we planted the bulbs in a cage, specially made for such a purpose. I don't know the name of these.

The lilacs are spreading a lovely scent throughout the garden. I think they did suffer some frost damage.

This one is called 'Blue Skies' is a prolific grower, but the scent isn't strong as the others.

Maiden's Blush is probably my favorite.

I don't remember the name of this one.

The dwarf early iris are starting too.

What a wonderful thing to have in spring - the scent of Lilacs. They don't do well as a rule in our climate - too hot in the summer, but occasionally someone has success and I was lucky enough to be in their yard when it bloomed....The white fringed red tulips are gorgeous....... Interesting about the variegated foliage on the daylily. It might add another dimension to the landscaping appeal of a daylily when it's out of bloom...........Maryl

Lovely, Nancy. I so wish we could grow lilacs but it is too hot here. The variegated foliage is very neat. I have four plants with scapes so far and I have seen the first real beginning of a bloom on Fernstone but expect up to a week before it grows and develops. I was surprised today to find five scapes on Axl Rose. I spent the day weedingand putt5ing down cardboard today.

Love those lilacs! such a lovely tulip……i have only a few here because critters have gotten mine too. Still seeing daffs here, everything else looks pretty lush from the good rain we have had.

Nan - You have lots of pretty things blooming. I do like those fringed tulips a lot. I can't keep tulips for long either. The only one I have left is a double pink. The frost got the buds on three out of my four azaleas. I sure miss their blooms this season.

I really like your lilacs; the Iris is nice too. My purple Irises are having an exceptional and early year.

French lilacs were disappointing here the last two years, with untimely freezes; but this year, they are blooming more profusely. Later varieties, such as Miss Kim or the dwarf Korean, are much more reliable, and if I were choosing a lilac now for landscaping, I would choose one of those. The scent of French lilacs, though, is usually powerful. Maiden's Blush has appealing contrast in bud and open flower.
