I agree that panels would be a great option, a silk option would be beautiful. Here are a few lighting ideas.

Would you ever consider facing the couch toward the window with a table beside it.....put the rocker on the end by the side table, facing in to the room. Then put those two chairs in front of the window, facing the couch.

A ball type big in silver.24" Ck lowes. Lamp plus. Hang 7 ft from ceiling. Panels on ends only. Add a light brown bamboo shade under them keep half way up. Home depot has them. Area rug 6 x9 grays, and accent color.

On windows go a dark gray or charcole woven fabric. With black not tan bamboo. Rearrange furn. Put sofa on big wall add one end table with tall lamp with black drum shade silver base. Float chairs in front of window with small silver table between. Big black square 36" coffee table. Add a tray fill with fake white orchids. And big coffee table book. Move floor lamp next to sofa. Area rug change from 6 x9 to 8 x10 in the grays. Yellow is good accent for you. Add that to pillows for sofa get a print. Put a zebra throw over the corner. To break up the orange.

Your rug is too big. You do not want cover entire floor. And you need a little color grays are a better choice. Charcole for curtains, they are called panels.

Lose the ugly gold light in dining go any of the choice that are posted above. Your sheers will work in this room. But not living room. Prefer fro all to match if you can see rooms. So can you exchange from a charcole panels on ends only do the black bamboo shade here too. Don't like the blinds pull up. Big 40 x40 art on back wall. In color. Get new chairs for table or a round table if buying new. A modern one would be better even glass. Pier one has good price. High back leather chairs in a teal. Would bring color in.

    For the living room

If you want to make your window "appear" to go all the way to the floor, hang sheer panels inside as high up as you can and then hang panels that the other posters have suggested on the outside of the window. You've got a great plan started.

Remove the light altogether and put in a ceiling fan without a light. Matchstick blinds would look good and not too heavy for the room.

Consider turning the sofa so that if faces the window. Leave enough space to add a console style table behind it and add two lamps. Pull in chairs to form a conversation group by placing them on either side of the sofa facing each other. Add a large painting over the table behind the sofa. Great colors.

A curved, suspended track lighting system would be cost-effective. The units suspended on cables would work well in the interior and not be obtrusive....the ceiling is low. If the fascia on the windows is hollow, recessed lights would be a great touch, too.

You can do this treatment for your windows…taking advantage of the soffit and just good quality sheers would be lovely.

If you like the idea of sheers, this semi-flush would look great, especially with the finish complimenting your gray chairs. It is $250.00.

How about plantation shutters for window, even all the way to floor
  • 13 years ago
    How about considering:

    1) A flush mounted fixture so you don't have to center your furniture arrangement the chandalier..
    2) Roman shades or matchstick blinds with or without panels.
    3) Sofa under window
    4) /Rectangular, large coffee table in front of sofa (tables with fun lamps flanking sofa)
    5) Your two chairs on either side of coffee table
    6) Ottoman across from sofa
    7) shelves on either side of living room entrance.
ps love the pic that sness45 posted above! Would be great with your space.

forgot to mention that you could completely remove light fixture and cap it. lots of table lamps around the room would give plenty of light and would add alot of interest to the space!

I want to make a small suggestion with the match stick blinds, because of the width of your window the blinds would have to be multiple blinds on the window. With bamboo shades(match stick) they only can be about 72 inches in width per shade so you will need to break up the blinds in multiple shades.Another option would be a honeycomb shade and they are so light and the fabric comes so wide you would be able to cover a window up to 144 inches with out going to multiple shades.
