Suggestions would depend on your geographical location.

If you put a couple of medium sized trees out in the lawn nearer the lower fence they would effectively screen your yard from next door's gaze too.

Thanks! Location is 7a ..north of Atlanta. We already plan to put forever goldy arborvitae down near the lower fence. We can only plant along the fence line coming of the house. Where the fence turns, there is a double gate that cannot be blocked.

I'd ask at your local nursery re trees/shrubs that take to container growing in your area.

That is an idea I hadn’t thought of. What kind of interesting single specimens. Our basement door opens out there and we plan to put a patio down there eventually.

Well I don't know what would grow where you are. Perhaps look in local parks and gardens and see if there's something you like. If you don't know what it is take pictures and post on the Trees Forum or Name That Plant Forum here and you'll get a name.

That is Moon Glow sweetbay magnolia.

An evergreen Magnolia might be an idea for one of the lawn trees, You'd need to research cultivars to get the right potetnial size.

Can you remove a small strip of your pavers, along the front edge of where the railing is? That way you could plant some vines in front of it and grow them all over the railing, to add privacy.

You could probably replace the railing with large trellis panels. Since the vines would eventually cover it, you won’t see the trellis in the end, only plants, but the trellis will provide support for them to grow.

An alternative is a row of Limelight hydrangeas, which you can grow as a tall hedge.

These are beautiful! I have trellises in another part of the yard and so was trying to avoid more. But these roses look really pretty and are making me seriously think of this idea. Many thanks

The roses will add some pretty color. I also like the Star Jasmine. Not sure if it would grow in your zone.
