Bring me Sunshine became available for the first time in the USA Spring 2024 so no one will have anything to say about it unless they are in another Country. Mine is in a pot growing very well with nice leaves so far, I will update when it blooms.

Both planted in the ground received this earlier this year.

Mine has been leafing out but no buds yet! So exciting so many of us took the plunge on this one this year. I hope I don't kick myself for only ordering one!

My Bring Me Sunshine had its first two blooms this week. I like the color and form, especially the initial orange yellow. Fragrance is very nice and strong, fruit and anise. What I don’t like is the floppy toothpick thin stems, they have no more ability to stand up on their own than a morning glory. I’ve got mine situated in 5 hours of strong California sun, so not sure why the plant is so limp, I believe I have tried 200+ varieties and this one is the most floppy.

I’ve also got Golden Zest at about the same size and age, and I must say it’s a nicer plant with a more substantial bloom. Golden Zest is already on his 2nd flush. Fragrance is also strong, spice and fruit.

Yes I have two of them - I call it Bring me Nothing for a reason - it never brings me anything but wanting to dig it up and toss it out.

Ben, BMS is beautiful and those blooms certainly don't disappoint. So, do you have own root or grafted Bring Me Sunshine? The reason I ask is my own root Twig Darby had the same problem. He spent the first year here in a cage, which I called his jail. His canes are good now though some are too close to the ground for his heavy blooms. So, could an own root BMS have the same twiggy canes in your garden? I am hoping this is a temporary problem that this rose will outgrow. But, I think grafted is the way to go with this rose. And of course you mention Golden Zest, which makes me turn green with envy, I'm still on Home Depot's waiting list, but I'm sure it will be next year, if I'm lucky, before I hear from them. I like my Bring Me Sunshine so far. Its foliage is clean so far and the blooms lovely.

If it continues to be healthy here it will be a favorite.

Sunny it is fragrant but I am not sure I can recognize Myrrh to tell you.

My Bring Me Sunshine is indeed grafted, I had hoped the good Dr would help him grow stronger, but no such luck. Golden Zest is own root from RU and doing just fine. I find most any rose roots will grow nicely with a nicely prepared bed in California, except perhaps Bring Me Sunshine. After he blooms , I’m going to dig up BMS and put him in a pot in full day sun, to see if he improves. Your Twig may be pouting because he was jailed in a tomato cage, but my BMS is far floppier than your Twig.

Ben, well my theory on grafted BMS is shot. I'm still in hope that he will improve over the next year. You can't imagine how floppy Twig was. If he hadn't been in that jail, he would have splatted flat. How about trying a new kind of fertilizer on BMS? And some really good compost? Curse him out good and mentally threaten him. Roses can detect mental messages, I think. I don't know if I really believe that. But I recently read that harming a part of a plant causes it to send out distress signals to the entire plant. Maybe if he thought you were going to dismember him, he would straighten up. That sounds awful, but desperation calls for desperate measures. Diane

Sunny Mississippi - Yes it does have a nice fragrance. Like BenT mine also has weak canes. I cant wait for it to mature!

I just want Golden Zest. Maybe next year.

I bought it grafted from DA this winter, and its among my slowest new roses to grow out this spring. I think it will eventually mature out fine, but that was surprising. Foxy Lady and Della Reese, in contrast, are my best grow outs so far for new spring roses.

I didn’t get BMS precisely because of the floppy toothpick stems Ben describes. I got Honey Bouquet and Golden Zest this year instead. Golden Z hasn’t bloomed for me yet but I’ve has a couple of pretty blooms from Honey B. I got both direct from Roseraie Guillot in France if anyone in mainland Europe is interested.

I did want Crown Princess Margereta and have failed twice. The most recent incarnation is, I’m convinced, Graham Thomas. I already got rid of a GT because it was a black spot nightmare here. I am now suffering from a surfeit of yellows!

Some in the UK grow BMS as a short climber, including @Marlorena I think?

Thanks for the feedback from another continent, looking closely at Malorena and Cooldoc’s pics on HMF, theirs are rambling along as well. Sometimes Austins grow extra sprawly in N America.

I’m afraid in the BMS vs Julia Child contest, Julia has BMS totally roasted with her perfect habit , she is so great and consistent, it is easy to take her for granted.

Meanwhile, here is BMS, she is 5’ wide from end to end, but less than 10 inches tall! And I propped up the 1 bloom , and helped the other bloom’s face out of the dirt, just so I can show you all.

There is some hope, some laterals are growing out of the ground hugger basals, so perhaps I might get a semi-bush after all (sort of in the way a honeysuckle builds on its own droopy canes and becomes a bush).

We should let David Austin Roses know about Inka, so they sue the !@#$ out of the seller of Inka. What a name. Right up there with Cartonnage, which is the material used in making Egyptian mummy cases. Great Etsy rose name, the mummy case rose. I wouldn't buy one of those pirated roses on Etsy if it was the last rose for sale on earth. Diane

Yes, I just checked and Tantau bred Inka, but the only seller listed for this rose is some outfit called Ergonzy roses. They are an Asian seller, so how do they get their roses into the US without a certificate, inspection, and quarantine? Tantau certainly doesn't sell directly here. Diane

I do believe Inka has a registered trademark. As for the name, Tantau may have intended to imply Incan gold? So IDK why they didnt call it 'Inca' (r)?

re: Julia Child.

I have 2 Sparkle and Shine, and it has been far healthier, and smells very nice. But it doesnt have the OGR form. It has an open HT form. Prairie Sunrise has the OGR form and scent, but its more apricot. I also have 'Forever Amber', which is both peach, apricot, and cream yellow (highly variable) w/ OGR form. HMF states moderate, fruity fragrance, but its very strong fruity + licorice to me. Its a half-sister to Julia Child.

Basically, there are always alternatives.

I have BMS grafted in the UK. I got it when it first came out and its in a big pot. Its very healthy, with limey green coloured leaves and very heat and rain tollerant which is good. Its covered in buds currently. I like it, very cheerful and a pretty pale yellow with apricot tones. Mines shot up long canes this year and does droop like that. I probably needed to prune more!

Downside is it blooms in flushes rather than continuously, so one big flush, a break of approx a month, than another big flush end of summer. Dannahue I believe repeats faster / more continuously. They were different side by side when I visited Austins gardens.

I have my theory about Tantaus Inka. Tantau has a few roses with Russian girls names: Anushka , Irina…

The name 'Inka' is a diminutive form of the name 'Inna,' which is commonly used in Russia and other Slavic countries.

I thought it would be fun to show the progression of my first cluster of bring me sunshine . Last Tuesday 6 days ago I took the first pic . Every day I have been looking fully expecting the bloom to shatter should I sneeze nearby . Nope ! It’s only now beginning to look like it’s winding down . While they are floppy they aren’t so thin ( like my port sunlight ) but I will be attaching to a trellis . I don’t normally grow bold yellows but I am enjoying this rose where I have it in an odd corner site . So far I am a fan . We will see how the year goes !

So far I am loving this rose! im impressed with the health of it’s foliage no-spray. BMS is level Kordes Klean. The fragrance is a wonderful, fresh and fruity myrrh. And I adore the way the color varies through the life of the bloom. I also like that the color seems dark to light from center to edge instead of a uniform shade throughout the bloom. Right now there are about three rather long canes, but they are not threatening or aggressive. Im wondering how they will hold once blooms appear on the tips.
