How to remove Crackle paint

I have a fireplace that the original owners converted from a wood-burning FP to a gas log, and they did a cracked paint process with a brown mantel as well as the brown metal insert. Question. How can I properly remove this crackle product (from the mantle box only) the brown metal insert comes in a variety of spray paint colors that is sprayed on.The mantle material is not brick but either a very hard type of wood, or a plaster as you can see from a chip in one of the pillars in the photo below. Here are some pics. It’s pretty but I’m over the cracks look crackle look. Thank you!!
