You say it seems like a quick fix and then ask for ideas. Unfortunately it would not be a quick fix if at all. Is that a set screw on the back of the base? What is inside the tube part your holding in your hand? You may need to take out the broken piece in the base if that is a set screw and the piece is removeable. Dill out the upper piece, tap it and use a threaded rod. Or just buy a new table.

It doesn't seem like a screw but it doesn't seem like it was one piece. So, to .a novice like me it looks like it may have been fixed with some strong glue. Thank you for your thoughts.

Maybe it was already cracked or something when you got it. Have you contacted the seller for replacement?

It's not that tough to fix. Shape the base and paint it to match.

If it's new, send it back. If it broke at the bottom and you fix it, it will probably break at the top in the not-too-distant future. That will be very hard to fix without wrecking the table top.
