Water resistant is not waterproof but no flooring is waterproof since a real flood will damage the subfloor even with tile . I have laminate in my bathrooms laundry everywhere and 17 yrs later still fine but no floods . There are anti flood systems you cna have on many appliances now too

When people suggest a seamless room to room flooring look, they don't usually include rooms like the laundry room or bathrooms. Those rooms are best done in a low maintenance tile.
