I’m not seeing any twisting. My friend says it’s normal new growth and this plant is new to me. I put a little iron on it as our soil is very alkaline.

Did you use weed killer nearby? my phlox have been VERY sensitive to what i can only assume is the weedbgon i have used near them (painted on, not sprayed) to attempt to keep thistle and bindweed under control. they get these leaves that are sort if rolled. your photo looks similar. mine recovered after a season or so. obviously not certain, but just a thought.

Yes that could be it. Also weedbgon on bindweed. Not right there but in the area. I hadn’t thought of that.

I had a Phlox paniculata with the same problem, and I believe you are correct that it's aster yellows. I would remove it and get a new one. New growth shouldn't be distorted.

I shoveled it and a large Husker penstemon in the same area. I hope that’s the end of aster yellows in my garden. I got as much soil as I could and put all in a black trash bag. Then sterilized my shovel in bleach and water.

If it’s not aster yellows, then I got some peace of mind anyway. Thanks for all the responses.
