O, they change throughout the season, often starting solid red and by the end of the summer, are almost all white.

That has been my experience as well.........starts red, ends up pure white but is the bicolor red and white most of the growing season. The hummingbirds don't seem to care about the color. They will visit relentlessly.

Mine puts out red flowers in cooler weather--spring and fall. It's bicolor all summer.

O Gods, I wish we had some of these 'relentless' hummingbirds. A supine chaffinch, no problem...and if we are really fortunate, we might get to see hummingbird hawkmoths. Even with eyes closed and the imagination dial pushed up to 11, we really cannot convince ourselves that a furry hawkmoth is any sort of substitute for a glittery avian joybird.
