Can you paint or stain the shingles in the gable to match the yellow siding? That would lighten the look, unify front and side, and downplay the brown. Paint the door a happy color (spring green?), add some landscaping, and it's beautiful!

I would want to harmon ize with whatever they have on the other side, and also lessen the disconnect between the bright yellow siding and the brick. Maybe the brick isnt "too dark" so much as the yellow is too bright and high-contrast? If the siding can be painted, maybe look at earthier soft gold-brownss that harmonize better with brick colors.

Yeah, that yellow is a misfit with your home. And I also agree with changing the color of the shakes in the gable, or maybe even removing the shakes to put siding there. (It is typically advised to have no more than 2 different types of surface on a home, and those shingles make 3 for you. That we can see, anyway.)

The brick looks good. I’d pick a soft cream color for the siding but make sure it isn’t yellowish.
