I would think that the light would be one of the appeals of this space, so adding a bunch of black, while dramatic, would seem to kll the room. However, if you work a night shift or something, maybe that would help make daytime dark...

Looking at your nice shade fabric, I think I'd go with a tan or golden brown from that for the walls, and then one of the lighter shades, like cream, for the trim. Ceiling could be the same color as the walls or the same color as the trim (but in flat/eggshell). Look for some beautiful antique brass lamps to tie in with the color scheme as well.

Thanks. We really only use the bedroom for sleeping. It's on the second floor, tucked away, and all the living space is downstairs. And even at night, there is a surprising amount of light that trickles in. Probably from the transom windows over the doors. I like your suggestion for a brown though.

How about this shade of gray with either black or white trim and an icy blue ceiling? Blue ceilings are very calming.

I've seen this technique for high celings, where the ceiling color is used on the upper walls. I would go Navy or Charcoal as opposed to black. Same effect but less stark.

How about some whimsy with wallpaper?

All one color would probably be much more soothing, which I think you said you wanted. Maybe a dark gold from your shade? And all woodwork in the same color? You would feel caressed I think!

I would also use a round rug under the chair. Move your chest of drawers to between the windows to add a lamp and art. ... the goldtone saturated color idea ^ sounds nice.

I just bought a house with dark gray very high ceilings. It looks like I live under ground. And we are near the beach with lots of sun. Don't paint the ceiling dark.
