You're right to consider all of the wood tones in relation to a wall color. A soft off-white or cream (not too yellow) would be great.

We are also remodeling our cabin - was happy to run across your question. We are also having a tongue and groove knotty pine ceiling. Been looking all over online for ideas for cabinets and flooring. What type of wood are your cabinets? Why did you decide on the flooring you are getting? Like the countertops you picked out. What type of wood are your cabinets? Still haven't actually chosen the cabinets, but looking at rustic oak or rustic maple in truffle (very dark). The wood is distressed. The floor color is actually going to be smoked oak by Rubio monocoat. We like the way it darkens/ages the knots in the wood and still shows variation in the boards...some lighter some darker. We varied the widths of the boards between 4,5,7 & 10 inches in a random pattern. I agree with using neutral colors. What about a neutral gray? We are considering it because it is a group project with my extended family and not everyone is on board with cream, although I like it. :)

Oh, and we are trying to figure out how to use barnwood siding on sides and back of the island in the kitchen and in a bar in the adjoining room. I understand all you do is wirebrush it? Right now we have it sitting in our garage!
