Hi Rory. Your grass kind of looks like a Panicum or Elymus species. Grasses are much easier to ID when they are in flower. Looking closely at the leaves and stems requires close scrutiny. If you can take a few photos of the charecters like in the following photo, it would be most helpful. Knowing the county of the state you live in would help also.

Thanks for the extra photos Rory. There isn't anything that I can see in them that leads me to identifying it. The grass family Poaceae is the 5th largest plant family, with over 12,000 species. There are over 50 grass species in my county that have been observed on i naturalist, and I know the true number is much larger. When I use google lens on your photos, I get mixed answers. Some suggestions were Canary Reed Grass, Phalaris arundinacea, Bromus inervis, Lolium multiflorum (Cyperaceae), Setaria pumila, Setaria villosa, Glyceria maxima, and Arrhenatherum elatium. I can't make an ID based on all the pics, so I hope you can post a pic when this grass does flower. I know some people who are much more knowledgable about grasses, but I would need a more precise location, it's a matter of protocol.
