I would not paint the tile. looks like an interesting embossed mosaic... I would change the wall color and embrace the unique tile.

Oh dear - I think you will get push back on painting this tile. Personally, I really like it. It looks like ceramic. I have never painted tile so I cannot speak to how easy it may be or what the longevity is on a floor.

Have you thought about maybe regrouting it? That will make it look very different.

I agree not to paint that tile. Put your effort and money into something else.

You will only end up with a horrible peeling mess. That you have to replace, or live with. Those are uniquely cool. Embrace them.

In most cases I would not hesitate to say paint them but honestly they are interesting and I bet not cheap. Until you can afford to do a complete redo why not envrace that color combo , yellow and blue are classic . A nice stack of yellow blue and white towels a nice shower curtain if you need one in one of those colors would be astart for a fun space .

Those tile are GORGEOUS! DO NOT PAINT. I repaint -- DO NOT PAINT!! Run with what you've got -- paint and decorate the room around them, make them the feature they are.

Here's a full pic of the bathroom. I always felt like the tile clashes with the wood in the vanity, which was part of the reason I wanted to change the tile.

The art is awkwardly small ... get something bigger, add more pieces (so the collection fills the space better), or just take it down. You could try to draw colors from the floor into the art.

Change out the shower curtain. To me, it's fighting with the floor.

Do you actually like that vanity set-up? That would drive me bonkers, such a high sink. The sink also doesn't pair well with the lighting and mirror -- the wood does, but not the sink, it's much too modern. Can you replace with a regular drop-in or undermount sink? That right there might make a big difference in the overall vibe of the room.

I would replace the vanity with something with closed storage. Rest of the room is charming. Any other comments are nitpicking, lol.

From the two posts that you have made, I have gathered you are very excited, and want to change things. Please slow down, and think about things, before jumping in and making things permanently damaged. The stone on your house is very nice. That bathroom floor is very expensive and quite beautiful. Everyone gets excited to want to change things, when they get a new house. Please only fix things that are broken, or damaged and need fixing. Paint a few walls, if you want to do something. Wait 6 months or more before you permanently change things, that are really nice to begin with. Make a list once a month for those 6 months, of things you want to change. What you think you want right now, when the house is new to you, probably will be entirely different 6 months later. The first thing, I see to change is the awful yellow on the outside of the house. :-)) The second thing, is to replace that vanity, with a new one, with doors and drawers, and a drop in type sink. That vanity doesnt do anything for the bathroom. Oh, and yes, change the shower curtain.

@cat_ky appreciate the comments, mostly helpful, but to clarify, we've been in the house for 2 years and these are changes we've been considering since we moved in. I'm in the early stages of making a plan, and getting feedback here, so I don't feel like we're jumping into anything.

Do not paint the tiles. they do not clash with the vanity, but if they did, the vanity would be the thing to replace. if you paint the tile you will have a cheap looking peeling mess of garbage.

Keep the tile and paint or replace the clashing vanity.

If you really don’t like the tile, and don’t have a budget to replace them, I’d hold off a little longer on doing anything (except maybe replacing the shower curtain) and get a price to replace and then work towards that. It sounds like, because of your paint it black idea, your style leans way more modern than the flowers , painted or not, will let you lean. I’d rather live with something I don’t like and motivate me to save whatever/whenever I can to replace instead of spending on little things to dull the hatred . Because every $64 you spend on a can of paint to hide is $64 less to get what you really want.

The most obvious thing that will happen if you attempt to paint the floor tile is that it will potentially wear from foot traffic. The raised areas will be exposed first and the lower areas will retain the color for longer, and as others have suggested, it will become a mess. The mustard yellow color could be an interesting one to see what it, or tones of it, could bring to the room. It could be the base for a wall color or a shower curtain color. Or maybe go with the blue if you like strong colours. A quick shower curtain search threw up these which I think will bring in the tile well even if you leave the walls white….see what you think…

Pick one of the colours for your towels, mats or washers. You could have set in each to rotate round, or mix together. Playing up to the colours is probably going the work better than trying to make it an all white room.

I like the vanity. I would change the shower curtain and paint the walls ( maybe consider the same blue as in the floor or one shade lighter ). Easy changes , low cost. Try to have a little fun with it. I would get some paint sample chips that match the color in the floor so when you are out looking for towels or a bath mat, you have a sample of those colors with you. Try to find some nice baskets or boxes to put on the vanity shelf to hold your items but "hiding " them.

I think the tiles look good with the vanity in your pictures. I know colors in photos can be deceiving

Right now you are seeing the tile as the odd man out. Spreading the colors around the room with a Roman shade, shower curtain, towels, art, etc will make the color choices look more intentional.

Don't throw good money after bad. If you dislike the colors of the tile, just cover as much of the floor as possible with a rug and live with it until you can change it.
