meaning in the path? i'm waiting for them to go to seed. after that i'll harvest those seeds i'll relocate the plants. i don't mind them being in the path i just don't want them to be trampled. i did plant creeping thyme in the gaps. when you walk on it the aroma wafts up.

Mmmm, rober, I like plants coming up in the paving. They always possess incredible resilience and need no effort from me. I generally manage to walk around them or keep them to the edges. Although I never manage to dictate the landscape as far as these volunteers go (I have never had any success sowing seeds deliberately) but in between paviours in my small garden, there are several types of campanulas, welsh poppies, erigerons, wild strawberries, nicotianas, dierama, hardy geranium. cistanthe and a changeable parade of opportunistic annuals (pinks, calendula etc.) Possibly because the whole garden is containerised or raised beds on hard standing, so any self-propelled green life at ground level is valuable and thrilling to me. I do have a couple of small sisyrinchiums so might put the pots nearer the ground and keep my fingers crossed..

I have an enormous nicotiana in the greenhouse. In it's third year, the evening fragrance is astonishing ( fugitive and fleeting in the open garden).

The paving is part of the garden here. It provides perfect conditions: cool root run, sharp drainage and sunny heads. I just take out anything I don't want, such as the odd dandelion. Otherwise I leave the self sowers alone. Several grow more happily in the paving than in the beds. eg Alchemilla mollis.
