Show off your Rose arbors

Garden arbors are my favorite garden detail , especially with roses . I managed to cram 5 in my very small lot , and I’d do more if it wasn’t already bordering on ridiculous 😆. Do you have any to show off ? I’d love to see !! Please add your photos so we can see . two of mine are newly planted so i will only share the three in bloom . first up , my renea and margaret hunt clem paired with blush noisette .

Next perpetrually yours an heirloom rose . this area is a work in progress . the rose finally gets a lit of sun so i hope that helps it .

This is a pic of two roses arches joined by a rope in peak red rose week. It looked good, but only from the upstairs bathroom 😆 as all the roses bloomed high up and weren't very visible from the ground. I'm currently overhauling them all.

Lilyfinch, I remeber your old garden was beautiful (I was just a lurker back then and rarely posted) and though you have a smaller space to work with now you have made such a lovely oasis! I actually have a Colette arbor planned that was initially inspired by your pictures from your old garden 😊

My husband is a lawyer but says building things is his stress relief…which works out well for me! They’re all new so nothing growing on them yet except the garden has peas and the big pergola has wisteria entering its third season.

Beautiful, Lilyfinch! Your pictures inspired me to buy Margaret Hunt last year and I am seeing the first blooms this year. Love the color.

Melissa Kansas, those are all such good looking structures...atta boy to your husband...well done. Those are going to be great with stuff growing on them.

Melissa Kansas 5b/6a, Those are amazing! We may try and copy one of his designs if I can ever get a climber to take and need a structure.

Here's my Lavender Lassie this year.

My husband made this arbor. He also put some wire fencing on one side where some clematis are growing.

Wow ! Thank you all for the compliments!! I would love to someday have a path of arbors leading all around to different nooks in a large garden . I think they are so dreamy !

Heather thank you so much that is the sweetest that you thought enough of my garden !! I hope Colette is amazing for you !

Fire , from here the roses look great but I do know what you mean when they tower at the top !! I have a few that do that as well .

What do you plan on using next ?

Erasmus, your lavender lassie and clematis are just FANTASTIC!! I love them . You have such a great eye .

Melissa .. what can I say ?!! Besides WoWsers!! Your garden spaces are so lovely and what a gift to have a husband who can make your garden dreams come true !! What roses do you plan on using ? I especially love the gazebo . What a great space to daydream in !

Yes Markay .. get an arbor but they are addictive lol

I cut the roses in my pics right back this winter, but all are now reshooting - Etoile, Guinee, Crimson Glory. I will be retraining them tight against the arches. They all got a bit out of hand, given all my experimenting with canes looping and other things. They are all big - Etoile DH can get to seven meters given the chance, so they really need keeping on top of constantly. A great show though, and worth the work (and the ladders).

Some of those three are not very 'dense' so can look a little sparse of bloom. I am still trying to figure out how many canes to let grow out and train on the arch.

AMAZING all these arbors. Lily your garden is always so inspirational my dear friend.

Erasmus I love evrything about your garden, it is sooo romantic

Melissa your husband definetely can build some gorgeous structures. Your garden is going to look glorious

    Erasmus soooo beautiful!

I planted a rose on each of the 4 corners of the gazebo. John Davis, the Pilgrim, Eden and John Cabot. I also planted Blue Dancer and Diamantina clematis. On the smaller arbor, I planted Rainy Blue. On the big arbor that’s pretty shaded, I planted Iceberg on the sunnier side and Montana Rubens and Elsa Spath clematis on the shadier side.

I’m really enjoying this thread. Thank you Lilyfinch! A lot of gorgeous photos of gorgeous gardens, y’all! Here’s a few of mine:
PIP Eden and Perfume Breeze on my “Beehive” arbor, Lavender Crush and Perfume Breeze on my Secret Garden arbor, Sally Holmes on the arbor leading to my vegetable garden and Ellie Beauvillain on my gate arbor.

Thank you! Fire, that's a pretty picture. Judi, your wall is really looking great. I like the dome thing with benches. I am also a grower of Elie Beauvillain and like her.

So much beauty and inspiration in this post! I love seeing how people's gardens are getting more beautiful each year. Especially Lilyfinch, Erasmus and JudiJune! Gorgeous!

My roses are just starting. Here's the improvised arbor because Princess Alexandra of Kent and Madame Anisette should never be planted next to the path. Don't trust the dimensions growers give! Als, MA is a true climber.

And here's a wild Wollerton Old Hall who didn't get tied in or pruned this year.

My arbors are not as gorgeous as Lilyfinch's, but this shady arbor outside my window brings joy.

This is my favorite thread we’ve had in ages!!! They all look fabulous! The majority of all of these are must have roses and clems in my opinion but every time I see a picture of Lavender Lassie I wonder why more people don’t have her

It's never too late! I love mine!

I bought Lavender Lassie spring of 2023. It has been living in a large pot until about two weeks ago. I planted it in the corner of my rock wall and look forward to seeing it grow up and over the wall. It already has five foot canes reaching out both sides. I’ve heard the rebloom isn’t so great, but I’m hoping in my long growing season that I at least good a second flush in the fall.

WOW!!! Such marvelous masterpieces!!! Every arbor/arch/pergola displays the capabilities of both rose and gardener. So amazing!!!

I am just getting my toes wet in climbers. I installed CPM this season to climb up a rather ugly sign pole in my front yard. Colette is also in a 5g to eventually plant against a neighbor's fence. Baby steps! However, I am very inspired by all the posts shared here. Special thanks @Lilyfinch z9a Murrieta Ca as op!

    Here's Lady of Shalott

And now Madame Anisette is popping open on her makeshift cattle panel arch.

    Here's Wollerton Old Hall

I didn't get to do any pruning on the climbers this year (I had a baby in the fall so the winter was spent mothering) and i'm curious to see if that will impact the volume of blooms

Congratulations for your baby!!! Your roses look great, too!

Love the clematis rose arbor combo!

Librarian , your arbors look fantastic !!! madame anisette is one i wosh was happy in my garden ( its just wasnt ! ) . who is the pink beauty by lady of shallot ?

Aw, thanks, Lilyfinch. Your garden is always an inspiration .I do think MA likes climates with a lot of rain before the blooming season.

The pink beauty is my second rose ever, Boscobel. That's one of the few roses that stays relatively compact in my garden and the poor thing was planted before I expanded my border, so instead of being in front where she belongs, she's behind the giant Benjamín Britton.

Here's the other side of that arbor with Teasing Georgia

You can see Munstead Wood is also battling Benjamín Britton on the other side, 7 feet away. I need to prune BB back, he's practically a rambler and to think that he's sold as a shrub rose 😅 I thought he'd be a good candidate for a oblisk in the middle of the bed, being at most a short climber. Ha. Ha. Munstead Wood, Boscobel, Jubilee Celebration and Lady Emma Hamilton are the only Austins that stay compact in my garden.

    Here's the side view

    Here's MA today

librarian_gardner, Those are all so beautiful! We can't grow anything like them so I am really enjoying your pictures.

Gorgeous thread! All these arbors are so fantastic.

Where does everyone get their arbors from? Lilyfinch, I thought I saw somewhere you had rainy blue. How is it?

  • last year

My arbors came from plow and hearth , but through amazon when prices were lower . they have held up really well !

i do have rainy blue , its beautiful ! its fighting for space with other roses but blooms off and on all summer . :)

  • last year

Thank you for replying lilyfinch, I need two good sturdy arbors.

Do you have Quicksilver? Would you say Rainy Blue is different enough than Quicksilver?
