We just bought a new house and we are struggling with the layout of our living room. We can't decide what shape, couches or chairs should go where. Thanks for any help!

Easy. You have a TV there. You are going to want to watch it. Two couches perpendicular to each other for viewing.

No, you need an L-shaped seating area that opens to the kitchen and tv area, with 2 comfortable swivel bar chairs at the bar. Leave a path for people to walk through the room into the kitchen.

I would move the TV to the long wall and place a sofa parallel to the bar with room to walk between the bar and the sofa. add a swivel chair perpendicular to sofa’s right arm.
OR - small round ottoman centered with 4 comfy, swivel chairs around it. A pretty tray for beverages on the ottoman. Also, move TV to long, blank wall away from windows and fireplace.
