landscape question

Hello everyone,
We have an electrical outlet in our front yard that will be mounted so we can use it for Christmas lighting. I have attached a picture. Does anyone have ideas for what we could do to either hide the outlet or mount it on something that could be part of the landscape. It will need to be placed on a structure that is about 2 to 3 feet high.
Thank you.

If it is for Christmas lights, shouldn't it be near or on the house. Why is it out in the yard?

I think anything you do would just draw attention to it. It's not that visible. I guess you could do some plantings around it like some tall grasses but spread it out so it doesn't look like it's hiding something.

Do you want to disguise what is in the picture or are you adding something additional to the spot that is 2 to 3 feet high?

If you want to disguise what is in the picture, add more rocks around it. If it's bigger, look at the fiberglass covers painted to look like boulders.

Thank you. Further information for you. The outlet needs to be placed on a 2 to 3 foot post according to code. The simplest solution is to have a post where the power comes out from the ground - we have it connected to a pipe for a temporary measure. We have hired an electrician who will place the outlet on a post. We were wondering if there was a structure we could use to place the outlet rather than wood or if we should just try to hide this. Thank you.

I do not think you will ever be able to hide it in a rock garden. I would use a post painted a beige or similar to the rock color and have the outlet put on the back or the house side.

it appears that if you go forward with this, you will have had a year-round eyesore installed. instead of trying to hide it you could just get rid of this and the incongruous post it requires and plug the lights into outlets on the exterior of your house once a year.

Wouldn't it be easier to add an exterior outlet on the side of the house where this Xmas lightng is going to go and then run an appropriately-colored extension cord to that location? It would either be covered with snow or lie in the grass or whatever....

A disappearing fountain might be an option.

Can you show a picture that includes the house? You will need to build something and it should go with the house.

My parents had a beautiful outdoor light that was custom built to match the exterior of the home. Just screen saved a few pics from google. People who bought the home never figured out how the parking was designed to work and don't keep up with the landscaping. Uggghhh., but you can see enough to give you an idea of how it should look.

Other ideas are to hide it in or behind a fountain, sculpture or create a bird feeding station.

As stated above, put the outlet on the house and run an extension cord. You can use conduit if you don’t want the cord lying around. I have lights around my garden, and they are solar. Maybe that would be a better option for you.

Where do you live or rather what part of the US to do you live? Trying to figure out if the code is more strict.

I think you could hide the outlet in or near a small shrub.

    Amazon sells these.

I doubt having an outlet anywhere near a fountain like several of those shown earlier would pass code, even with an outdoor cover over the outlet. Agree on exterior outlet on the house would be the least obtrusive. A two-foot post near the house if you are not allowed to have the outlet right on the house wall would be hidden behind the shrubs or grasses you have.

Thanks everyone - I appreciate all your comments and pictures as it helps me to think more about this. Boxerpal, I had a look at what you suggested. I like the look of that post. I went to the website and saw that they have one with a light on top. I am going to post this to see what people think. I have an outlet on the house but would prefer not to have extension cords running across the walkway. I have reindeer with Christmas lights that I place in the lawn so need electrical nearby. Thanks so much everyone for taking the time to help me - I appreciate it very much.

What are your thoughts about the post that Boxerpal suggested. The electrician said it needs 2 to 3 feet high as we get snow. I could have this post with the light on top - see picture below. Then try to find a few solar lights that blend in and mount them along the walkway. Any thoughts?

Glad the idea is working out.

    Looks good.

What about a Gabion Basket filled with your rocks.

I have never heard of a gabion basket. Just googled it and it looks interesting. Thanks

The post with light that I have a picture of above will be 44 inches high. The post is 4 inches wide and the light is 8 inches wide. What would you think of having this where the wires come out from the ground and then surrounding it with more plants? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi everyone,
I am still struggling with what to do. Do you think that the post with the light (picture above) mounted in the center of the bed could work and try to make this a focal point of the bed somehow? Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Since you don’t want an extension cord across the porch or walkway to your existing outlet, why not just add another outlet onto the house where the cord wouln’t be a problem.?

The cord will not be a problem if I use this post. I am just wondering if the post with light I am considering buying will look okay in the flower bed. Thanks.

I think you got a lot of feedback that a post might be awkward, I just was suggesting that there might be a simpler solution with no worries about it looking weird. (But maybe it will be fine on a post). Good luck!

Thank you for explaining. I guess I was hoping to make it work but thank you so much for being so honest with me. I guess it will look weird and I should consider something else as you and others have suggested. Have a good day.
