A brand new enemy has appeared.... lanternflies on my rose stems. I have never seen them before, ever, on anything. I didn't know what they were and googled to find out.
I am researching how to handle. Input from this board is welcomed!
I had a few nymphs poking around my roses last summer. I chased them off (they are so fast!) and had no further issues. So I think they could potentially do damage, but I haven't seen it in practice yet.

Bayer Complete Insect Control is the go to insecticide for sucking insects. It contains imidacloprid the systemic agent.
You may see no damage being done to your roses, and they are the adults that do the most/worst damage being so much larger than the hatchlings. You don't have to spray the flies themselves...who most likely will fly off at the slightest provocation. The poison that kills them is in the rose's tissue.
Keep an eye on things and proceed to spraying if needed. You probably won't need to.
