I think it's really up to you and whether you like it. It looks quite pretty to me. I believe a lot of Dr. Huey has rose mosaic virus so I doubt I'd try grafting onto it. I have a pretty plant of it.

I have a lovely old Dr. Huey that looks great when properly cared for and trained on a fence. It is a once bloomer and tends to blackspot and defoliate after it flowers in many locations. Mine has two other climbing roses on each side to hide its nakedness the rest of the season when necessary.

It's beautiful when it blooms, but alas, it blooms just once in spring. It also is a black spotter which must be sprayed to keep its foliage clean, and not spread it to roses in its vicinity. If left unsprayed, either organically (poor results are to be expected), or conventionally, it can get to look like a giant ugly mess by midsummer. Another factor is your fig tree. As it matures and gains size it will outcrowd Dr. Huey. Then, if you keep Dr. Hueys and train its branches to the left to accommodate your fig tree, conventionally spraying DH will make the figs questionably edible, depending what spray you use.

I would shovel prune DH, not worth the trouble it presents.

BTW. What variety is your fig tree? Do you give it any winter protection?

Sorry for delay in response. That fig is a Ronde de Bourdeaux and I just moved it here this year. Yes, I do winterize it so I keep it smaller in size. The stake next to it has a partner on the other side to which I connect 2x4 wire fencing. The space gets filled with leaves. I intend to espalier the fig to the wall ultimately. I think I will dispatch the Dr. Huey or at least move it to a fence on the side of the yard as I don’t like the idea of so much black spot near my other roses. I won’t be spraying for it, however. It has lived this long without (not that prettily, though).

I have not seen a Dr. Huey with rose mosaic virus. I have grown Dr. Huey, with success. If you have room for it, and like it, keep it. But if it tries to take over a cultivar you like keep cutting it off. Don't grow both. grow one. Eventually if you grow both, Dr. Huey will likely take over everything.
