I can answer one of my questions. The Hemsl. refers to the botanist Hemsley who catalogued it. Still hoping one of you Viburnum experts can help with the others. Maybe it helps if I say that these are about 15 years old, knowing cultivars come in and out of the market and fashion?

The first image looks like classic Viburnum carlesii, with duller foliage and wavy/toothed leaf margins.

The second image is something else, possibly one of the Viburnum x burkwoodii selections. Their blooming times would likely coincide with Viburnum carlesii, and would be fragrant. Yes, if this is what you actually have, they can cross-pollinate with sufficient insects doing the heavy pollen lifting. I can see one fruit forming in the bottom right of the second image.

It would help if you'd list your growing area, and if you would post pictures of the WHOLE plant in addition to the closeup images. That can often help determine identity, as well as the excruciating details.

I agree, the first one is Viburnum carlesii and the second one is Viburnum burkwookii.

Texture is the main thing I go by. The first is sort of furry, and 'dull'. The second is glossy and smooth by comparison.

Then there is the difference in the flowers. The first one has some pink about it.

They both have gorgeous perfume of course. I love them both.
