How much pruning can be done to this weeping pine?

This tree was here 20 years ago when we moved in and the pond was made bigger. Absolutely love this tree and how it looks over my pond. The problem is the dropped needles in the fall and winter and seeds dropping into the pond in the spring. Very labor intensive keeping my pond clean of debris. I'm at the point of either pruning it way back or removing it which would break my heart. Help!

A picture is worth a thousand words. How big is this tree? If you prune it ”way back,” you’ll likely destroy its character, and you might not solve the problem. Are there other means to ease the pond maintenance issue? A mature white pine can be challenging to live with, but we decided years ago that it was worth it.

If you have a 20 year old weeping pine...I would suggest you get rid of the pond .. rather than screw with the tree...
